Its a good win for Canelo. He needed the knockout to win and got it.

Remember he made Jacobs fight timid and unsure of himself as well.

Was VADA present at this fight?

    Honest question if anyone knows?

Sure...Canelo landed twice as many power punches. There's a reason why Kovalev was done and Canelo was fresh. The cards were good.

Canelo found a knockout punch in a fight most had him losing.

I cba debating the legitimacy of a scorecard that wasn't needed.

Most people aren't judges. Canelo is exceptionally good at clean punching. It's why he was winning the fight on the cards and fighting like he knew it. It's the same story in a lot of his fights: Canelo isn't that active and the opponent throws more, so "most people" might think he's losing. But he lands the majority of the clean and effective punches and nicks a bunch of rounds as a result.

He's also hated on boxing24 and will be losing here no matter what.

No complaints from me, just watched the fight. I thought Canelo would win, called it right for once lol. I even thought he was winning the rounds, Kovalev was throwing a lot of pitter patter but not landing much at all in the first half of the fight, I can't really even remember more than a couple good shots he landed. For me quality > quantity anyday, not even in terms of damage but how clean the punches are landing.

If I see a guy on the backfoot, throwing useless shots at gloves, I know he's not in control and that's how it was.

Do you even know what power punch means? Any punch other than the jab and it doesn't even have to be hard. Kovalev barely got hit with hard punches before he got knocked out therefore he couldn't have been done because of that. He was done because he was old, didn't have enough time to train, and got weakened with a rehydration clause.

I definitely had Kovalev ahead up to the knockout although canelo had started to get into his groove by then and I could sense that Kova was starting to tire badly. Still impressed at how comfortable Canelo was standing within punching range of kova throughout.

how much difference do people think it would have made if Kovalev had had a proper rest after the Yarde fight as well as a full training camp?

I know. That last right hand was as clean a shot you’re ever gonna land on someone’s chin. Brutal knockout and the ref was dead right to stop it. Kov was out.

You need to check for actual clean, effective punches landed. The last text I sent before the knockout said that Kovlev was "even at best" on the cards and guess what?
