Bit more spite from both in the final minute-plus of the fourth. Escalating from a low-energy spar to a rumble of feather-fists. Both clacking each other about the nose, McDonagh's stuff a bit harder and pushing Connelly into a corner.

Connelly has warmed to it now, but coming on a bit late. He's knifing McDonagh with short uppercuts and straight thrusts in the armpits, the ribs, anywhere he can lay in a glove. McDonagh sort of taken aback, not firing much in response, trying in vain to pin Connelly's arms down with his own to contain him.

    10-9 Connelly

    49-46 McDonagh

Storm of weak but ferocious two-way punching in the last frame. When they separate McDonagh gets the best of it with his southpaw 1-2, but then Connelly barrels in with some body pummeling. I'll call it 10-10.

    59-56 MM.

    Referee's decision... 60-54 to McDonagh.

Hard to get too up in arms since the right guy won and rightfully wide on points, but the ref must have been asleep throughout round 5 because it was clearly dominated by Connelly. Matter of small import, but still..

DP Carr, nicknamed "the Cannon" and with power vaunted by MTK promotional junkets and local media - last registered a stoppage over three years ago (versus Elemir Rafael, on 10/8/2016)

Five opponents in a row gone the distance, including his most recent, a draw with Scott "Iron Duck" Moises, a sub-.500 journeyman.

Carr in the blue/silver/red with the lighter hair. Adams in black/white/gold with the short taut braids.

    Round 1

Carr is running around to get a look and finding Adams quick to swivel and face up to him at every turn. Carr tries floating a high jab but Adams rises to full upright posture and picks the jab off. Very cautious and cagey process here, both pecking from a distance with jabs and rights to see what sticks and gauge one another's reactions. Carr landing a bit more if you factor in his light brushing jabs against the belt line when he ducks mid-circling. Carr gets in an overhand right on the brow, only glancing but the crowd loves it.

    10-9 Carr

    Round 2

Carr is bossing in with his jab, but in fairly predictable straight lines and with monotonously regular speed. Adams begins to roll aside, pestering Carr with light counter jabs needling his cheeks at perpendiculars. Adams darting in and out, sucking in his belly to deny Carr the squatting body jab. Adams feeling himself, flitting about on his toes, looking slick when Carr starts lunging for him and missing. Adams in a rhythm now, slip & counter and then disengaging to reset outside, never pausing to rest. Carr manages to cut the ring off but is tied up and spun away. More nice jabs from Adams, but when they close together both messily spray power shots, uppercuts & overhands, virtually all caught on the arms of both men.

    10-9 Adams

    19-19

Adams seems capable when he puts his mind to it of delivering the sharper and more effective blows, surprisingly, for Carr having the supposed puncher's reputation, and for himself only being a modest 8-0 (1).

    Round 3

Carr is chasing with the jab and getting tattooed with counters as the fluid and elusive Adams traverses around the MTK logo and steers clear of the corners. Carr misses for most of the first two minutes but then as they come together in a clinch he manages to pry Adams loose with a hefty uppercut beneath the jaw. Adams spends the remainder in retreat and under fire on the ropes. Carr walloping away, many punches slapped at but enough getting through.

    10-9 Carr

    29-28 Carr

It’s a pretty good fight so far but there’s something incredibly dreary about the backdrop

The crowd's more or less a dead fish, yeah. Like banging a hot girl who just lies there and stares vacantly at the wall.
