Duke McKenzie has it 117-112 Froch, and Barry McGuigan has it similarly (Froch by four)

    Predrag Aleksic 116-112

UD for the Cobra, winning his first career world title.

Great, great fight. Must’ve watched it at least half a dozen times. Pascal is the name that pops in my head when I hear the phrase “Mexican style”, which is being used very lousily these days.

This was a treat. Shame we never got a light heavyweight rematch several years later, when Pascal was campaigning there and Froch was in search of meaningful legacy fights and/or paydays in the aftermath of the Super-6, the Kessler rivalry, and the retirement of would-be domestic nemesis Joe Calzaghe.

I'd have much preferred a Froch vs. Pascal II with the Cobra moving up to his dalliance with Groves, tbh.

Or at least instead of the Groves rematch...as Pascal defeated Lucian Bute in early 2014, giving him a recent victory in common with Froch and setting the stage perfectly. :shakehead:

No, the groves rematch was HUGE.

In the moment, yes, because there was the aura of uncertainty left after the first match - but come on, be honest, you wouldn't have been just as up for a Pascal II as you were for Groves II? If not more?

Or, fine then, how about later in 2014, after Groves II?

Pascal actually sat on the shelf from January (when he fought Bute) until December (a wasted date with Bolonti ending in a No Contest)

Wonderful sportsmanship and mutual respect from the combatants after they bashed each other's brains in.

Pascal humble in his first taste of defeat, acknowledging that Froch was the best man on the night. Although he wasn't thrilled about Kaczmarek's scorecard, and rightfully so.

@CST80 this was about half a decade before your time on here... did you ever watch & score this? Prime opportunity, if not. :deal:

(especially as you have a yucky taste in your mouth you're probably keen to wash out, as I did :sisi1)

Eleven year anniversary of this fight in just over a month, btw. I'll give it a commemorative :bump on the day.

Yeah I have, twice, I wasn't going to miss that one for anything, I'm a huge fan of both. I forgot the exact rounds, probably in alignment with your scorecard, because I had it the same 116-112 for Froch, both times.

It’s a really good fight to put on for someone who’s just getting introduced to the sport

a real barn burner but surprisingly no knockdowns

also froch took butes soul while pascal went the distance with bute

Full transcript, "nothing in this fight so far, both of them landing terrific shots, who was landing the more purposeful ones, well, that's anybody's guess. Nothing in it, Duke..."

Listening to it now in isolation I can clearly make out that it is in fact Duke that he's saying. But can you see how it sounds a bit like "Jim" as he trails off? So that prompted me to Google what person named "Jim" would have been calling boxing matches on ITV, and the name Jim Rosenthal popped up, leading me to conclude the case was solved as the between-round minute break ran up. :nusenuse: Hasty confirmation bias; my bad.
