Couldn’t agree more with that post. What on Earth is he doing with Jack Catterall, the lad definitely has the potential to go further than domestic level. Big fan of Joe Hughes too, he beat RDJ imo.

I get what your saying but he's not ready for a Taylor or a prograis and getting destroyed in front of his own fans could be devastating for his career.

I agree but Ritson properly gets 50-100k a fight and would probably earn 1-2m for a fight v Taylor at St James Park. If so its worth it for him.

It's good money to take a beating, or he could do a price and fall over when the first decent punch lands and take the money.

Especially not at St James’ Park filled to the brim with your hometown support, in what could be your only shot at a world title.

Ritson will give it his all but ultimately it won’t be enough.

Exactly mate and he will be criticised by many for going in there with the best, getting a live changing some of money and trying to live a dream. Bonkers. Skys narrative will be it's a 50//50 or near 50/50 fight will be funny mind.

I’ve mentioned this elsewhere on here but they really won’t. Sky’s coverage is absolutely drenched in odds and the target market for an event like this will be men in their 20’s and 30’s who will all know it’s not a fifty fifty fight. If anything it’s in Sky’s interest to drum up the whole ‘local hero outsider’ narrative. It’s essentially like a non league team getting Man Utd in the FA Cup third round. Every channel wants that game. (Not that at the moment Man Utd losing would be much of an upset of course.)

Ritson isn't even European level yet, as we've seen. Prograis, who is a proven top level boxer, would absolutely destroy him, not that Ritson has done anything to deserve to share a ring with him.

There are 52k seats in that stadium, they're never filling that for a fight with Ritson unless he becomes a unified World Champion who can dazzle for 12 rounds. They're never filling it.

I think you’re underestimating the local fanbase. A fight at that stadium will be a unique experience. They still get plenty for their abysmal football team and Ritson sells out at 10k arena against total nobodies. They’ll shift 30k or so and that’ll be a success. Possibly more.

Point being it won’t make that much difference if Ritson is a world champion or not. He’s basically Newcastle United in boxing form.

Bit of a play on words but I’d expect 20-30k in there. Which would be some effort

I see where you're coming from but 30k isn't filling it, it's half filling it. They get their football fanbase from generations and generations of fans and families going, it's in their blood, Ritson, a Euro level contender, isn't quite the same. I'd like to see him get f**ked up by Prograis in front of the 'Toon Army' though, just to put an end to the hype, so bring it on, especially with 20k+ empty seats overlooking proceedings

There is no ‘hype’ with Ritson. Your comment seems a bit needlessly petty. He’s a well promoted lad who’s popular because he’s a local fighter who has a go. Nobody thinks he’s a world beater, especially those who follow him because they’ve already seen him lose at European level.

20k empty seats means 30k watching by the way. Trying to paint that as a failure is absolutely pathetic in fairness. Fury sold about 2k for his last fight and couldn’t shift more for the Klitschko rematch than Ritson did for Davies. For a sub-European level fighter it’s amazing.
