Most of the time i’m taller than my sparring partners and i am 6.3. I fight from the outside using my jab alot and keep it long and my signature move is when they move in i step back with the back foot and jab at the same time and then step back front foot and give cross at the same time so a 1-2 while going backwards But since a few weeks i am sparring 2 taller Guys than me one taller at 6.8 and one extremely tall 6.11 I fight these Guys on the inside i slip their jabs move in punch the body and follow up upstairs and somethimes head-body then body -head i mix it up. But its not my speciality i like to stick and move use my jab from range somethines when they stop jabbing i can do that despite them being taller but when they start jabbing again im stuck so then i move inside Are their any tactics to stick and move jab fight on the outside against a taller oponnent? I saw floyd do it against coralles also a heavyweight named orlin norris do it against a heavyweight called toney Tucker Can break that down for me? And do you have more examples of tall boxers getting outboxed in the outside by boxers that were shorter? And can someone break down how to outbox a taller boxer from The outside tactics and things etc or a way i can draw the taller oponnent too much make him step too close in my range overreaching so i can step backWards in a angle And hit him with the 1-2 Please share all your throughs and wisdom
Miguel Canto was a 5'0 midget at flyweight, and was a master boxer who outboxes everyone. He also had no power, but is maybe the No1. Fly ever. Qawi also used to outbox people much taller than him, albeit with pressuring footwork. Maybe he'd be more useful for you.
I would recommend watching Ruben Olivares vs Alexis Arguello, I know Olivares lost but he boxed well on the outside against a much taller opponent using basic fundamentals.
keep changing position, forcing him to follow you, and jab him when hes changing position. if hes not set to punch you, even if he punches with you, it wont carry the power yours will. you want to move towards the outside of his jab, if hes south paw, turn him to your left. the jab only carries power when youre stepping directly forward, any other time you have 1 foot off the ground, you will not be getting full power. so train yourself to be aware when he will have one foot of the ground, and try and punch him then. because of his reach, if hes as fast as you, you need to catch him out of position.
Bandeedo appreciate you on this forum always good advice your a great Guy and have good knowledge thanks men
I watched him looks good real good but can you breakdown for me The things he does? The details and stuff things i should know?
Yes i watched it looks good clinch too much in my opinion i would prefer when after punching side step or pivot to diffrent angel so he turns punch again en then do it again keep him turning punching while he chasing But it was good fight to study thanks for the video
If people have more tips and strategys on this subject or have a good video example please share your knowledge Maybe someone can detailed explain the mayweather vs coralles fight the tactics techniques he used and stuff Please people share your wisdom i would appreciate that
Yes i mean ward came in threw one punch and clinch insead of clinch side step or pivot for diffrent angle punch 1 or 2 a 3 punches and then turn him again and keep scoring but maybe the Guy was big puncher and he didn’t want to take risk so maybe Thats why he prefered clinch but in the end he won and was effective great boxing brain ward has
