He still fought a clearly past prime Hopkins who was over 40 years of age. He then later followed it up by fighting another way past it fighter in RJJ.

Alvarez moving up two weight divisions to fight and KO Kovalev is a more impressive win than Calzaghe beating Kessler. Alvarez beating Golovkin is also a far better win than Calzaghe’s win over Lacy.

    It’s still not 41.

Hopkins had more left in the tank than Calzaghe, Calzaghe retired soon after his encounters with Roy and Hopkins.

Does that make Hopkins 25 years of age all of a sudden?. You questioned Alvarez for fighting “past it” fighters, yet cheered Calzaghe on in his parade against Hopkins and RJJ.

I don't want to ever see kovalev in a boxing ring again, taking dives is pathetic no matter how much they pay.

I'd prefer that Kovalev take dives rather than getting brutally koed in the 11th rd...

No. Kovalev can't pull the trigger anymore.. he isn't ageing well.. the fact that he just got sparked for the THIRD time by a MW without a single legit KO to his name should tell you he's a spent force. Canelo beat a shell.. Kessler was 28, undefeated & a unified champion. He had cleared out Europe & went onto beat Froch. Different fights entirely.. unification, Calzaghe was the ageing fighter here, closer odds too. Nor was Kessler on a two month turnaround & multiple trainers ..

I rate GGG over Lacy yes. But Calzaghe didn't need rigged cards or PEDS to do it unlike Canelo. Call me when Joe Calzaghe fails a drugs test.

Calzaghe was 36.. we've done this one.. refer back to it.. I will say that Calzaghe moving up to LHW & beating ring champ Hopkins is better than anything Alvarez has done as of now. It was book ended by Wright & Tarver & Pascal & Pavlik. Wheras Kovalev is Alvarez & Yarde & to be continued.. If at all!

He needs to do the Pascal trilogy! Pascal has a belt. Sergey can start his return to the top by taking Pascal's belt. he's already KO'd him twice, he can do it again damn it.

I'd say Kovalev would be smart to take a rematch for the sake of his bank balance.

Alvarez moved up two weight divisions while Calzaghe moved up one weight division. No, it’s definitely not a bigger win than Calzaghe vs Hopkins.

Kovalev was a fight Alvarez moved up two weight divisions to take on and he was a champion at Light Heavyweight. Lets not forget that Kovalev also had two fights against an ATG quality fight like Ward where he gave Ward absolute hell in the first fight too. Kessler is a solid opponent but who did he have on his record worth noting prior to fighting Calzaghe?.

GGG, Trout, Lara and Cotto are all far better wins than Lacy.
