First he picks the worst super middleweight of all time in Rocky fielding, this guy isn't even a top five super middleweight in Britain. Then he proceeds to choose the weakest light heavyweight champion out there, a 36 year old that was a punch away from being knocked out by the novice yarde. Canelo obviously saw this fight and thought juice me up and I'll beat kovalev. Then you can look back at nearly every flight he's taken the opponent has either had weight issues or is in their mid thirties.

He’s definitely the top cherry picker in boxing today. In fairness, Canelo can pick and choose his opponents and doesn’t have to worry about losing on the cards. Part of me hopes he stays at LHW but doubt that will happen. Ideally, he goes back to 160 and tries to unify. That would be my preference.

If he goes back to 160 he might loose his punch resistance and without it he is nothing

I find it amazing that Sergey Kovalev, The Krusher is now known as a cherry pick. One of the most feared LHWs of this era, a guy who just recently revenged his only loss since Ward won a LHW World TItle then defended it successfully just a couple of months ago. I mean I get the argument that he's past it but calling Kovalev a cherry pick just sounds weird.

He is very talented, but abysmal stamina is his main weakness, when you have such bad work rate its hard to win a decision, thats why he needs to buy judges. Worked fine for him. And yes he is a top notch cherry picker, beating old fighters. He should change his nickname to Saul "Gerontophile" Alvarez.

I disagree. Plus guys at 160 don’t punch as hard so it’s relative. True LH fighters punch harder than anyone at 160 and Canelo usually walks into the ring well above 160, even when he fights at the weight.

Anytime the guy wins a fight it becomes a cherry pick after the fact so yeah hard to top him in that regard

It's not so much cherry picking it's all the BS around his fights put in place to give Canelo every possible advantage. His team can set the terms in such a way as to minimize risk to their fighter.
Arguably good for the fighter but bad for the sport.

I have no (tainted) beef with Canelo. He is an excellent fighter. But... he is such a big money maker now that he is allowed to get away with stuff others are not...

hydration clauses, catch weights, soft penalties for PED use, sympathetic judges, ...

That's the crap around Canelos fights. Once again, Canelo is a fighter and would I think fight anyone put in front of him but...he is such big business for Golden Shower Boy and boxing in general that he's like too big to fail.

Someone will say...but the other guy agreed to it. They would be right. Its economics. If you are a XYZ fighter who is at the end of your career and you never really made huge money and Canelo's team offers you more money than you ever made if you agree to conditions ABC you probably go for it.

Moving up two weight divisions to take on a champion who is a known murderous puncher that also has major reach and height advantages is cherry now?. What a pathetic moron.

Actually everyone who favoured Kovalev was calling this a cherry pick gone wrong because the frailties were there to be seen but it was figured Kov still had enough in the tank which he certainly did not with that bizarrely underwhelming powder puff punch performance from him.
