    In his situation there were two ways to approach this fight:
    a) go all in swinging trying to stop Canelo in the early rounds;
    b) don't sit on his punches hoping to go all the distance and win on points.
    Kovalev and Buddy chose the second approach.

    many pro boxers are coming out and saying they thought it was a dive. I guess they're just canelo haters right? Or conspiracy theorists? Because nobody in boxing ever took a dive, especially fighting a man that has a $330 million dollar contract. lol @ being this naive

    The second approach was never going to work. He was getting robbed on the cards.

    He doesn’t drink during camp.

    What happened is that Canelo landed twice as many power shots, many to the body, and wasn’t holding back to avoid being countered like Kovalev over ten rounds. The result is that he was fresh and Kovalev was sloppy in 11.

    Can’t believe the level of idiocy. This is even more idiotic than people going around saying that Haymon had Whyte’s drink spiked when he got busted.

    I just realized that Tyson v. Botha was fixed. The way that Tyson calmly walked away from the knockout punch was a dead ringer that he knew Botha was taking a dive.

    Nah. But Kovalev definitely took the fight knowing he wasn't 100% with $$$ on his mind more than anything else. He cashed out here. Nothing else to see here. Predictable outcome and definitely one the powers at be calculated but not a "fix"

    This is what Buddy McGirt said before the fight: “This is how I see it – if we beat him and don’t get the decision, the whole world will see it. And a guy like Canelo is not gonna accept that. He’s gonna want a rematch. You know what I mean? The key is to go out there and do what we have to do, and not worry about the judges, not worry about none of that. Because then that’s how you get caught up and you get yourself beat up, because you’re worrying about too many things.”

    With Canelo the whole world HAS seen it and nothing changes. Canelo is still marketed as a 3 division champ. Canelo doesn't want the GGG rematch. He didn't want the Lara rematch. He didn't want the Trout rematch.

    I guess I disagree with McGirt.

    Anybody that says Kovalev was getting robbed on the cards based on scores leading up to round 11 is a ****ing idiot of epic proportions.

    If that was staged Kovalev should go into acting or stunt work. Because that looked real and unexpected.

    In retrospect the first choice looks better. But had he lost early, then the second would have looked good. At this point Kovalev was washed up a little. He was still good, but his resistance was not that great anymore.

    The punches were real. The fight was fake. How did the first ten rounds look?
