Would of be Cobra'd for sure IMO and I rated Stevenson despite finding him utterly reprehensible as a human being. Stevenson's run at 175 was a lot of smoke and mirrors if you look at his resume although he didn't get his shot until later on so from a boxing standpoint it's a shame we never saw him kickstart his career earlier.

I find it odd that posterity seems to have sprouted this myth that Stevenson was better than Pascal, when the former had opportunities to earn very lucrative purses in Montreal by accepting the fight and yet made a point to duck him all the way to eternity. :nusenuse:

Yes there would've been some good match ups for him down there. I wouldn't have minded seeing Pascal vs Kessler and it would've been nice to see how Froch fared up at 175. We know he had the chin to do well up there and he had very low body fat at 168 - IIRC he only weighed 170 in the ring against Abraham. But he had the frame to add the weight to campaign up there for sure.

What big fight did Stevenson ever actually make? He had that shameless arrangement with Alvarez to just keep taking step aside money so no good mandatory challengers could ever pull up on him.

Ward? No. Kovalev? No. Pascal? No. Hopkins? No.

He was a classic example of a 'lineal' champ milking his belt for all it's worth with a safety first approach to match making for the majority of his run at 175.

The idea of facing a nobody Boone KO victim who was coming off of pounding on Donovan George relentlessly before finally scoring a stoppage in the 12th. (Probably the way Froch saw it)

The Horror! The Horror! I bet The Cobra was absolutely mortified.:scared1:scared1:scared1

Yeah, all of his biggest fights have big asterisks beside them.

Dawson? Well, yeah, would've been laudable if he wasn't coming off that cringe drop-down and stoppage loss to Ward.
Cloud? Well, yeah, maybe if he wasn't coming off B-Hop dispelling his aura in a humbling defeat earlier in the year.
Fonfara II? Well, yeah, the Pole did start to build himself up between fights with that nice run of Ngumbu/JCC Jr./Cleverly - but then got KTFO in 2 minutes by Joe Smith. :nusenuse:
Bellew? He was clearly boiling himself to make 175 at that point, as he was at CW in his next bout and never looked back from there (and even heavyweight) during his later run of success. Plus he looked just so-so in the Chilemba matches directly preceding Stevenson.

Really the only times he took on big threats were at the very end of his reign, and they resulted in a gift draw and knockout loss. :deal:

Interestingly enough I watched this fight live because Pascal used to be my favourite fighter and back then he had much more of a slick RJJ type reputation, but this fight proved how he would fight when he had to dig deep.

Yeah, he idolized RJJ (and was coached by him later in his career) and you can see glimmers of the stylistic imprint, mostly in the leaping hook which requires major athleticism to pull off (and Pascal, while not RJJ level, was quite athletic), but overall he was a far more offensive-minded gung-ho fighter.

Stevenson was Froch's mandatory at 168. Stevenson moved to 175 because Froch wouldn't fight him. He'd have obliterated Froch in my opinion.

Froch didn't want to get brutally KO'd. Some guys have no problem fighting scrub mandatories, but when a real challenge become mandatory, and they duck.

Well that's just like your opinion man.

Personally I see it differently. It was Stevenson who abandoned his mandatory status and left the division.

I wasn't a big Froch guy but trying to paint him as a ducker and Adonis as some take on anyone anytime kind of fighter is laughable IMO.

I think the thread title should be changed to Carl Martin Frochowski.:deal:

Wait, is that actually his Polish ancestral name before it was Anglicized?

Like I say, it's funny how fighters are okay with fighting a bull**** mandatory against a scrub, but when there is an actual threat that becomes mandatory, all of a sudden it's not in fashion to fight the mandatory.

You realize the irony of you saying all this from Adonis' side of the fence, yes?
