You realize that version of Donaire is long gone?

 

That fight was 8 years ago. It has no bearing on how the fight will go.

No, beating an old Donaire wouldn't make Inoue P4P #1. Maybe if he beat Nery or won a title at 122.

 

That was Donaire nearly a decade ago. Donaire is past it now.

 

Not beat — obliterate. Many people are saying Canelo is P4P #1 after Kovalev.

 

If he beats Donaire in convincing fashion, he would justify his top 3 status, but it shouldn't boost him to #1 (maybe if Donaire was in his prime).

What would you guys value more, Naoya moving up and getting a belt (Roman, Vargas, or Navarrete) or staying at BW (if Takuma loses) and becomes undisputed (beats Tete and Nordine).

 

Course he is. Who else? Loma struggling with Campbell? Canelo beating a shell? Usyk not doing anything? Spence barely getting past Porter? Crawford??

Donaire is far more durable than Kovalev and more accomplished than anyone any of the top fighters faced and defeated this year... and that's why I don't think that this win is given AT ALL, let alone obliterating him.

 

Dude...Donaire's done. You judge them on THEIR CURRENT STATE. He's not fighting the donaire from 10 years ago...

 

I would like him to move up and see how far he can get, if he easily gets past Donaire.

 

Done based on what? Featherweight losses? He started to damage unified BW champ Burnett, scared away Tete and sparked his last opponent at a weight he's UNBEATEN at. That's right. Unbeaten.

He's an extremely game underdog, powers just not banging the Inoue hype like they do any other fighters'. No other boxer in the game has faced such a caliber of opponent this year except for Thurman and guess what? He lost to Pacquiao. It's a huge challenge, and sparking Noni (never been done) would crown Inoue as the top dawg.

In my opinion, Donaire has slipped, but he doesn't exhibit signs of a shot fighter. He hasn't been hurt since Rigondeaux and Walters. Even in tough outs like Jessie Magdaleno, he wasn't wobbled or hurt. His punch resistance is still above average and hits speed is still there, albeit a tick slower. And of course, that lethal left hook is still potent.

I would much rather Inoue be fighting Tete than Donaire if I'm being honest.

 

I hope you are right. If Donaire has his punch and some speed still, could be interesting.

 

I am pretty confident he’s not as he used to be. The counters are somewhat there, though his timing has slipped, at least his power remains there. Donaire’s ultimate weapons are his speed, sharp punches and lethal counters. He needs all three to secure this fight in my opinion and he doesn’t have them all anymore.
