No he didn't. He clearly gained some fat or simply cut less weight in training camp. He really didn't look pumped up (and he definitely used to from 2015-2017 when it was very obvious he was on something)

Kovalev was simply very over the hill and hadn't recovered from his last fight. Canelo was always a good puncher and very sharp with his shots.
Kovalev just got caught clean on the chin right after being wobbled.

Plenty of fishy things in canelos career, this isn't one of them.

That's not how sport usually works.

Money, mandatories, expectation etc...can all play a part in making fights...you know this.

Fighters lose, they make comebacks, they rise, they fall.

To suggest Yarde isn't a fight that might one day me made just because Yarde lost to Kovalev makes no sense.

I'm not saying it ever will get made, or that it's even important, just that if it doesn't the main reason won't be because Canelo beat Kovalev and Kovalev beat Yarde.

Example: AJ flattened Whyte, and Ruiz flattened AJ, but that doesn't mean that Ruiz fighting Whyte can never make sense or wouldn't forced by circumstance or expectation.
(Nobody knows exactly what the future may hold)

Not an elegant example, but it is one nonetheless.

It'll very interesting to see if Canelo can somehow shed that excess weight and make a 160 weigh in again.

I guess, maybe, it's possible if it's a long enough break?

I'm not an expert in that sort of thing, but it seems unlikely a man can fluctuate weight to that extent and it be safe and healthy...but I'm assuming that.

Well it might be made if Yarde makes a name for himself, and positions himself as a mandatory, but thattoo many IFs. There are other fights between 160-175 that are much much more interesting, so I found it odd that this fight would be discussed despite Yarde just getting KTFO by a jab by Kovalev who was just put to sleep by Canelo.

He looked noticeably bigger to me, broader than usual, and was carrying at best 12-13% body fat. And he's not a tall dude, 5'9 is a generous listing.

Those impressive body blows shows you why Kovalev felt tired after the 6th

The man who made those highlights is a true appreciator of boxing skill and knows talent when he see's it. Gotta give Canelo credit for displaying a sublime set of skills even if it was against a past prime opponent.

Of course he did. He TRIED every punch in his repetoire and arguably won both times.

On the other hand, Kovalev seemingly forgot to use his bread and butter punches.

However he is on the decline...... so maybe he is suffering from memory loss too?

If he decides to fight again maybe he wont even turn up to the venue next time?

How many rounds was he targeting the body?

You can hardly even call that a snippet of the whole fight.

    Remember it's 12 rounds.

Yarde was going to the body just as hard and more often, and he still didn't collapse in a heap.

I think you would be a great candidate to carry out an experiment.

Take a trip dow to a local boxing gym. This can be any day in the week, of your own choosing.

Ask the coach in there which one of the guys in there, who are semi pro. A professional boxer if you can find one there would be even better.

Ask them politely if they would be willing to complete a simple task with you.

This simple task is for them to put on their gloves load up with the utmost leverage taking a step back and smashing you with their best punch in your genitals just to see if you you would get ''punked'' or not.

    Really?

Since I could not find them myself, and don't wish to believe that you're a flat out liar, you got the chance here to tell me how many body punches did he throw in the first round. Even better, why not show me the moments when he threw and landed successful body shots in the first round?
