Does ESPN regret wasting money on Fury yet?

A rather nothing point in fairness. Nobody thinks he’s doing this for free. The thread is about whether ESPN regret the deal they have with him. This all hinges on how much they’re paying him and how much he generates.

 

Financials are a part of the sport. They can make the difference between big fights being made or not. It’s natural that fans will have an interest.

That said, I find it very odd when fans seem to get personally offended by a fighter not being particularly successful. As soon as you point out Fury’s empty seats, unsold tickets and so on the reaction from some is extraordinary.

 

I wonder how much fury actually came out with for His WWE exploits? I imagine some American investors would have taken a good slice of that pie.

 

He made more from that fight than Shannon Courtney would selling her ring 24/7 for the rest of her life

The Wilder fight is next. Only when those financial figures are released will we know the answer to the OP's questions. Everyone knew the Schwarz & Wallin fights would sell about what they sold, including Arum who drew up the lists of opponents for Fury. Arum wanted the Wilder rematch to 'marinate' in his own words and made sure Fury had two relatively risk free fights in the meantime. We've had them two fights now and it's time for Wilder.

The WWE stuff was an opportunity taken by Fury while his eye heals. I think it'll help sell a few more Wilder PPV's and he's made nice money out of it so credit to him. It's had zero negative impact on his boxing career considering his eye injury so God only knows what the fuss is about? People will throw anything at him for criticism.

There's really nothing else to it all. Arum laid out the blueprint and here we are on schedule. If the Schwarz figures were so unexpectedly bad, why did he allow Fury to box Wallin? Arum knows the figures and he was happy enough to go with Wallin. The man is in his 80's and one of, if not the most succesful promoter ever. I'm sure he doesn't need Tony Hayers to take control of his finances any time soon.

Seriously, the speculation fans but moreso haters fabricate is ridiculous. Arum told us all along what's happening and here we are, hoping Wilder gets past Ortiz unscathed. I'm confident he will and then it's all eyes on February 22nd.

Also, I’ve said several times why I think Arum wanted Fury. You appear to think it’s because Arum was desperate to get hold of an unpopular, foreign, light hitting, boring heavyweight who demonstrably does terrible business.

I think it’s because he knows Joshua Fury makes money and he wants a dog in the fight. That, literally, is it.

 

Is Fury's deal up after the Wilder fight? Because if i was him doesn't home fights on ppv v the likes of Whyte, Chisora, AJ etc all make a lot of money than hanging around a pretty stagnant US heavyweight division

Arum signed Fury to make money out of him and that's exactly what'll happen with Wilder 2 and 3. If Fury comes through both fights with the WBC belt there's the undisputed fight which will also make big money.

What exactly is your point?? In one paragraph you're saying Fury won't make Arum any money, but in the next paragraph you're saying he will. Which is it like?

I don’t think Wilder 2 will necessarily make the money you seem to think it will. Business for the first fight was average. Since then Fury’s been in two complete stinkers and a panto.

Fury v Joshua will be massive because Joshua is massive and Arum wants some of that cash. Fury is his only way in. Fury on his own as the headline does garbage business. Arum won’t be giving him tens of millions when the guy sells about a tenth of the tickets that Lewis Ritson does.

 

Honestly why are people so arsed if Fury makes Arum money!

As Fury fans you should only be caring about if he’s winning titles.

He’s won one world title fight his entire life and instead of hoping he goes on to do it again and then unifying a division his fans are more interested in justifying empty seats in an arena and his bank balance.

The Schwarz performance was punch perfect and a pleasure to watch despite the poor level of opponent. The Wallin fight was an old school tear up. WWE is WWE.
