Sergey Kovalev vs Bob Foster

In terms of accomplishments, Foster certainly is not the GOAT at 175.

In terms of head-to-head, he's a threat to all them.

I feel Foster would have knocked out Spinks, even though Spinks ranks higher.

 

Think ur right, Spinks a great but can see Foster stopping him in the championship rounds.

Why would you think that? Spinks had far better punch resistance.

 

I would pick Bob, too.

 

Cause Spinks was a slow starter and got buzzed early by a few guys who, suffice it to say, were not Bob Foster.

Spinks also never faced a guy who could match his height and reach, and Foster was actually taller and longer, and Foster had faster hands.

More styles than anything. I think Spinks' track record shows who the better fighter was. I just don't like Foster's style for him.

 

Spinks actually did face guys with greater height and reach than him and did well, but they were heavyweights. Foster, on the other hand, performed like a journeyman in fights that were over 175, even if only by like ten pounds.

I didn't claim him to be. I wrote arguably. I personally don't believe he is.

 

Bob Foster knew his limitations, unlike Sergey Kovolov, those supposed last five years are his own responsibility, if he had problems. It was'nt like he was stripped of his license or title. It does not matter that Foster did not face Kovolov's opponents to rate him above Foster. Those statements coming from avid boxing fans do not make sense at all. Bob Foster did not lose his title to any light heavyweight, he retired with his title, 1968-1974, he was not kayoed by a blown up junior middleweight, his losses were to heavyweights. Bob did show a lot of guts, and was a law abiding individual, he was a law enforcement officer in New Mexico. He may have not been the greatest light heavyweight champion of all time, but he was a worthy fighting champion.

 

The other factor with Foster was that it took him a long time to finally get that title shot.

Same for Kovalev. He had a long am career.

 

Kovalev fights with day before weigh-ins and enters the ring in the mid-high 180s. Foster fared poorly against guys that size.

He also fought to a draw with Jorge Ahumada at around Kovalev's age which doesn't sound much better than getting knocked out in a competitive fight with the best pfp boxer in the sport.

 

With all due respect, Kovolov lost to a blown up junior middleweight, Bob Foster retired after the Ahumada fight, no one or Bob made any conspiracy theories about the draw, including myself. Bob knew his limitations, a mark of a great champion. Kovolov's condition is his own fault, carousing with woman and boozing the night away, his fault. Oscar De La Hoya did not bribe him to behave that way, lost prime, my foot. Foster did not lose to any light heavyweight during his title reign, 1968-1974. He lost to heavyweights, people need to understand the cold simple facts, he lost to a better fighter on saturday. I know you can accept that, he lost his 3-4 years ago by what I mentioned before. His prime was not taken away like Ali, he just did ignorant things to himself. Foster was a much better champion, longer title reign.
