Why was Canelo a big favourite to win?

Why do you guys say stupid **** that discredits you?

You're aware that Canelo sent Kovalev an offer PRIOR to the Yarde fight right? Come on man, don't spazz out anything that comes to mind, be informed.

Have you followed yardes career? Believe me he's fought absolutely nobody, when the fight was made everyone was laughing and saying yarde was going to get destroyed. When yarde done better than expected people realised kovalev was nowhere near the force he once was. I think you are forgetting how ferocious kovalev used to be, that was a shadow of him last week.

That's on you. I showed my record, if it means so much to defend your honor, cobble together all of you picks since January. Sorry. I have better things to do with my time. And yeah... I know, blah, blah, blah, baseless accusations, blah, blah, blah. Oh well... the burden of proof is on you.:)

Probably did forget because I don't care that much. I didn't care enough to even do a search, or thoroughly read you response. Whether that makes me too cool for school, or just too blasé, then so be it.

The unrealistic odds for this fight made it irresistible for the incentivized gambler to bet on Kovalev.

Kovalev had his heart taken in the first Ward fight when he couldnt finish the job, then he had his soul taken in the rematch .
He even had this exposed already by Edelier Alvarez.

I still thought that despite this the weight would be trouble for Canelo.

    I was wrong

That was probably all a part of his strategy I'd imagine. Meaning, I don't think Canelo was overly concerned with winning the early rounds, much the same way an older Hopkins was never in any hurry to win around until things started getting closer to the halfway point.

I had Kovalev ahead going into the 11th, but I think Canelo's strategy started paying big dividends in round 6. To his credit, Kovalev resurged in the 8th, but by the time the 9th ended, the momentum in the war of attrition aspect was strongly building in Canelo's favor.

How about this, you know damn well that I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this sport and that yes, I have a weakness for looking for a silver lining when it comes to fighters I like. You frequently do the same. We both have that flaw, which is a little more pronounced in me, since I tend be a little more emotional and to care about more fighters than you. So maybe we should stop trying to undermine and denigrate one another and constantly trying to win shallow ass brownie points. Because we both know far more than the vast majority of posters on this site.

since were being honest, yes, you know more about boxing than the vast majority of knuckleheads on here. but in all fairness, the bar is pretty low. i believe i know more than them, and you, and i should, as i have the history to know more. no, im not always correct, but every single argument i make is based on solid reasoning and logic. until i see someone, or someone shows me, that they understand boxing on a higher level than i do, im gonna be an arrogant ass, as its all for fun, from my end of the game, anyway.

When I have no emotional involvement, or biases, which I freely admit when I do. I'm pretty close to unrivaled, my ability read a fight is borderline innate. And yes I'm a stubborn arrogant ass as well and think I know more than you. Oh well, it is what it is, another detante we'll have to have. Neither of us will take a knee in that department ever.

Im probably the least biased person on this board so ill give you my objective no bs opinion. Kovalev isnt "finished" but he is a shell of what he was pre 2016. Pre 16 Kov knocks Canelo out and I had Canelo winning this fight. I didn't even think it would be a tough fight for him and its wasn't. I did a whole thread asking peoples opinion if I was crazy to think that and the majority thought I was nuts. Kov is still a capable fighter but I don think he has more than a couple more fights in him where he can win but hes not beating guys like Canelo who does deserve credit for the win or a guy like Biev. Id be afraid for Kov health if he stepped in against Biev.

That strategy did end up paying off, what if it hadn't? That's a hell of a risk to take when you're not sure how your power is going to carry up two divisions. Another 4 minutes or so, and we'd all be talking about what an awful robbery the Kovalev match was.
