Sad to read that Dwight Ritchie has passed away after a sparring incident with Michael Zerafa. Unclear what happened but he passed out during sparring and couldn't be revived
Tragic. I saw his last fight against Tim Tszyu & he fought very courageously for 10 rounds despite being badly cut early & hampered throughout. He was scheduled to fight on ESPN on 6 December as the main support to Tszyu's next fight. A win would have put him straight back in the mix as a viable opponent for any Junior Middleweight in the world.

That's a very sad story... And I would like to know more details. Exactly what kind of bodyshot was that, for example.
Probably already had underlying issue with his body which was exasperated with the body shot. Not sure how you can die from a body shot unless they literally destroy your internal organs?
RIP. Dying so fast from body shot is VERY strange. Usually heart and brain problems cause rapid death. Did he have a huge neurogenic shock?
This kind of thing is usually hypertrophic cardiomyopahty. Sudden death happens in various sports when people have heart problems.
I'm a bit skeptical. I'm suggesting there was probably heavy head shots earlier in sparring... Maybe it was a freak punch? Children die in baseball from the ball hitting them in the chest happens yearly
I'm perplexed by how a single body shot does in a healthy 27 year old. None of the published articles thus far delve into the how or why of this. If there's a cautionary lesson that his tragic death could serve, it would be nice for everyone to know what exactly that lesson is. (for instance, don't spar or compete if you have xyz underlying condition, etc)
All i can think of is serious liver shot impact or constant kidney and liver Body sparring But even then to die Its very odd Unless it was undiscovered hesd trauma?
