No offense to anyone, but I'm sick to **** about Monzon's crime,...the murder..all I'm interested in is his fighting exploits. The murder (his personal life) and his fights (his boxing life) were like night and day. Not enough fans today know squat about Carlos Monzon...they don't understand his fighting style, oddly cold temperament, his in the ring strategies and tactics, methods, and so forth. The murder is as tiresome to hear about, to read about, etc.,...as Duran's "No Mas"...and no one seems to have any problem in forgiving their favorite fuzz bunny Dooo-ran of no mas...same thing with the criminal history and antics of so many more otherwise great fighters.

I didnt realize a woman was abused for years in secret and then finally murdered by Duran during the "No Mas" fight. Silly me, I just thought he quit a sporting event...

Here come the Monzon haters … We have gone over this before .. There are many boxers and athletes in ALL sports who were complete monsters and ***** out of the ring or off the field of play .. I know it gets emotional but if you can not separate outside the ring from in the ring then you shouldn't comment on boxing in the ring because your opinion is tanted …. that's my take .. leave emotion out of it

Why should it be tongue in cheek?

I disagree. I see nothing wrong at all in seeing a fighter as a whole person. If someone feels okay with murdering someone, I'll in turn feel free to judge the %$@* out of them for it. I may acknowledge that he was a great fighter, can't look away from that, but you're damn right I'll judge him for what he did. I'd look a little sideways at anyone that wouldn't.

Because you just equated Murder with quitting in a sporting event.
I'm not Monzon hater. I can appreciate what he did as boxer and look at what he did to his wife separately. I'm not gonna join you in CrazyTown.
Or maybe I'll just be a Monzon hater.

Go for it...its your right to side with an overzealous fan who is making foolish comparisons. Somebody is certainly emotional. Too bad you don't know who it is.

You seem to be the only poster who misunderstands my point like you do. I was not comparing quitting in a boxing match to murder....I probably could have phrased itself better, but I consider the two events as peripheral to both Monzon's and Duran's boxing careers...events that need to be toned down or tuned out completely because they are irrelevant to the two men's boxing prowess. About 6 to 8 years ago, there was for a short time, an estrogen driven snowflake who identified himself as a "male" who castigated me personally for being a supporter of Monzon's...making the erroneous assumption that I also endorsed him murdering his wife. It went on and on and on, until he just kinda dribbled away somewhere....and God knows that I tire of any hack who wants to dwell too much on "no mas" as well.
I don't think you really know where you stand on Monzon, now that you mention it...so whatever you can see in the media concerning this great fighter would probably benefit you greatly, and make for more informed postings in the future.
