I was surprised to look up their records and see that Beloshapkin (the lanky southpaw, in red) was supposed to be the opponent here, coming in 10-33-1 and ostensibly to be fed to Veshaguri, who's 2-0.

Beloshapkin - riding an 0-24 slump dating back five years, with fourteen of those losses by stoppage and six of those by quit-job (!!) - has been schooling the kid.

I would have sworn that Veshaguri was the B-side underdog here, but I've looked up pictures of them both (transliterating both of their full names from BoxRec) and yeah, they are who they are yet Beloshapkin is putting on a clinic in boxing tall and counter-punching in volume.

Yay, they didn't rob Beloshapkin! :aaaaa: The commentators were chuckling when the scorecards were read, in mock surprise that he actually got the nod, but they didn't sound like they disagreed with the decision whatsoever. I honestly thought it could've been a 40-36 shutout for Beloshapkin.

Somehow this has been really competitive despite the crazy tale-of-tape disparity between the 5'11½" Ukrainian and 6'3" Russian. Their reaches aren't listed but I'd wager Lopsan has an even greater edge in reach than just 3½"...

Probably because Lopsan has been eschewing that height advantage in favor of brawling on the inside with Shytyi - but hey, I'm not complaining. :sisi1

You been watching closely enough to have a scorecard? Crazy to imagine Shytyi did enough to earn the W, or maybe a draw, on hostile turf in St. Pete?

His effort here in the fourth is pretty intense, and Lopsan seems like he can't wait for that final bell.

Both are 1-0. No matter what, somebody's losing their zero in either column 2 (losses) or three (draws, in which case both of them)..

And they do in fact rule a draw!

    Cool. Rematch! :ggg
