(As of the most recently published WBC rankings, Postol was #2, behind IBF & WBA champ Josh Taylor. Postol is also ranked by the WBO, but most recently at #12 so I doubt he would be Ramírez's mandatory with them...)

Postol has only been defeated by fighters currently ranked p4p top 15 - dropping a UD to Bud Crawford in 2016 and then Josh Taylor last year. His form has been shaky the last few years, at times looking shot, but he is still a stern test for anyone. Speaking of shaky, the multiple-time United States championship gold medalist and Olympian - whose scouting report might well read "talented but complacent" - is still undefeated (and coming off a career-biggest victory over Maurice Hooker) but needed a gift to keep his zero against Chon Zepeda back in February...and, glaringly, failed to stop or even drop the chinny Amir Imam when they met in early 2018.

... discount Pistol at your peril. He'll rightfully be an underdog but the upset would by no means be a shocker.

Exactly, we all wrote him off as shot & finished altogether when he struggled with (and was dropped by) Najmitdinov in what should have been an easy tuneup at home versus a nobody ...but then he rebounded with a good showing against TTT and decent form in wins over Şiar Ozgul and Mohamed Mimoune.

 

So, if anyone is confused as to why Top Rank is advertising this as taking place on the 1st while Boxrec has it listed as on February 2nd - that's because it will air live at 10pm EST (on Saturday night, for us on the American east coast) which is 11am local time Sunday morning in Haikou.
