And so what? I don’t like money grabbing twats trying to shaft working class people before Christmas. You on the other hand seem to be ok with being financially rodgered. Cuckold type behaviour. You genuinely come across as submissive. Freak.
Thing is, if your on quite a low income, 25 quid is a lot of money if you happen to be a boxing fan. That whole ‘its only the price of a dominos’ reasoning is nonsense. If you don’t have much disposable income 25 quid is a lot of money. But as others have said, Sky arnt too confident AJ is winning this and have hiked the price up. Where does it end? 50 quid...oh it’s only the price of a PS4 game. See how it works?
"It's only another fiver" Really? Another one? Where does it end? It's an ex-champ coming off the most embarrassing loss this year, against a third-choice replacement... in a country that is more known for camels than Boxing. £25 for that? No chance. No doubt the undercard will be pants, too.
In this instance, Joshua represents the greed of an out of touch promotional company which is married to another greedy corporation in Sky, whom shamelessly fleece their customers. The only way they get a kick in the chops is if their commodity gets starched. Therefore, I’m all for it.
But why should they sell it for less? I’m sorry but the current market has 4am Tyson Fury fights priced at twenty quid. Neither Sky nor Matchroom set that price. So surely they are entitled to think that what they’re selling is miles more popular and therefore should be priced higher? Talk of Joshua coming off a loss or Ruiz being a fat guy miss the point completely. Joshua is (from a business point of view) possibly the most popular boxer we’ve ever produced. Popularity drives sales, not ability. If it didn’t Lomachenko would be fighting in his own specially constructed mega-stadium.
So, from a business POV, how do you LOSE a fight (and not just lose on points, knocked down 4 times and stopped) but hike up the price in your very next fight?
And if you’re on quite a low income four years ago twenty quid is a lot of money if you happen to be a boxing fan. And twelve years ago fifteen quid is quite a lot of money. See how it works? If you’re a low income then unfortunately watching sport becomes a tricky issue.
I don’t understand your point. Joshua Ruiz II will be immensely popular. That’s why it’s going to be priced five quid higher.
Exactly. It was getting to the point before the Ruiz fight that there was an assumption that he would walk through any opponent that wasn’t named Fury or Wilder. I think we were getting close to the point where he would struggle to sell out stadiums for defences against people it was assumed he would comfortably beat. There are now big questions over whether he can win this fight and interest in it is at least ten times what there was for the first. Combine that with a UK peak time start and it’s arguably his biggest fight since Wlad.
Lets get real, people who cant afford it are not going to miss out they will just watch it illegally. It makes no odds what the price is most boxing fans will watch it one way or another.
Agreed. In an odd way it’s possibly done him a favour. If he’d beaten Ruiz in a few rounds he’d now be set to fight someone like Kownacki in what would have likely been a pretty hard sell.
That’s assuming people who have the desire to watch it will be watching it via streaming on the devices you need to do that. They’re hardly given away either. Long and short is even those who are going to pay will stump up between mates and split the cost. If you’ve got four lads who planned to watch it at a mates house they’re not going to miss it because it’s now £6.50 a man rather than a fiver.
