Judges should not be scared to score a rd a draw if that is what it is. No one really deserved to win those first 3 rds so score them accordingly imo. Jacare wasn't even trying to score takedowns, he was seemingly just holding him against the fence, no knees no nothing. Some folks might say he had octagon control but others might say Blachowicz had the octagon control because he was keeping it on the feet. I think overall the right man won. I'm sick of seeing these old legends 5-10 yrs past their prime still hanging around in the top org of mma. The reason they are is because there is VERY FEW elite level fighters in the sport. Bigger than soccer Dana said all those years ago. Well in soccer/football Beckham,Lineker, Pirlo etc etc aren't still campaigning at the top level against top opposition are they. MMa is nothing but a fringe niche sport and often it is just a circus really.
Yeah fair. Same man. Sometimes there can be a bit of a novelty behind it especially if the fighter still has the right kind of intangibles left. Shogun has nothing left now. No speed, no timing. His power wasn't even a factor against an upright poorly schooled chinny opponent in Craig. Im really dreading the future of certain divisions. I think the lower ones will always remain compelling but how will HW look 5-6 years from now? The pipeline for that division is pretty much dead. Don't see any potential elite talent in development and I really would not be shocked if a 41 year old Dos Santos and 44-45 year old Overeem were still relevant then. Why isn't the UFC doing what the WWE did and offering wrestlers contracts right out of college? They can easily mold some heavyweights from a young age but they aren't even attempting to do it(at least to my knowledge) Also. I wouldn't be shocked if Hardy sees the top 10 at some point. He's driven has some raw intangibles and the division is pathetic with no signs of getting better. LHW is going to be even more **** 4-5 years from now.

Struve will still probably be around then too.... Alternating wins and losses and doing just enough to stay semi relevant. Disappointing talent.. But hey maybe he can still realize his potential at 31 despite all of the miles already clocked in. I mean... He is competing at HW after all.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in some of those UFC boardroom meetings Dana has discussing talent and the companies direction. Some of these fighters are nothing but corpses getting rolled out time and time again. You have to wonder with some fighters what it takes to get cut. Renan Barao is 2-8 in his last 10 fights, Jake Ellenberger went 2-9 at the end of his career and looked garbage in pretty much ALL those last fights as well. One thing I will say is that Struve is very entertaining to watch especially with his BJJ when the fight hits the floor. As a heavyweight he has very slick skills on the floor imo. He is chinny and slow as hell on the feet which is not good for him though.
That sure would be something to behold I agree lol. Yeah man. It really is sad how long these guys linger. Barao was clearly the more skilled operator last night but he was just too beaten up physically and mentally to impose himself. I often wonder if Struves fortunes would have been different had he beaten Hunt like he should have. He threw that one out the window with his aggressive pursuit of submission instead of softening Hunt up with ground and pound. I believe on at least one occasion he sacrificed full mount for an armbar attempt that failed. WTF?
Totally agree. Cormier, and Romero being the exceptions, for old guys who can still kick some arse. UFC is expanding, but not replacing the star power, or talent. It's been getting a bit watered down in my opinion for a long time.
They also got into the game later and from an background that tends to translate well into MMA. That helps. Guys like Shogun may be younger but they're older in terms of ring years. Overeems longevity is pretty impressive. Considering his long career and all the times he's been knocked out he doesn't some that worn down.
