    Marcos Escudero vs. Joseph George!
Injustice! It goes back to what i've always said: Boxing doesn't need judges! We should just look at the numbers to decide a winner. (i hope Escudero sues)

The Olympics already tried appointing winners by the numbers and it failed miserably and it failed miserably.

Do you realize that the numbers are actually being counted by human beings pushing buttons and judging whether the punches are landing or not?

It failed miserably at the amatuer level where any type of connect whether with power or not count as equal, in the professional ranks it would fail much worse because how do you count the varying degrees of punches and thei intensity behind them????

Believe me, we are much better off with corrupt judges than any type of counting system.

I've long decided not to get to upset when a bad decision is rendered. What I do is I decide for my own selft who the winner of a boxing
match is and call that fighter the winner.
There were a number of Pacquiao fans who were upset at me by taking that course of action.
"3-0 in three different divisions against the great Manny Pacquiao is Juan Manuel Marquez."
Instead of coming in this forum to complain about the decision after Marquez thoroughly outboxed Pacquiao in fight 3, I came in here and wrote an essay on the complete mastery of Juan Manuel Marquez over Manny Pacquiao, congratulating the master Juan Manuel Marquez for a job well done.

Corrupt judges will always render decisions in a judges sport, there it no getting around it no matter how you slice it.
For your own sanity it is up to you to render your own decision and not get to upset over an official decision that is corrupt from the roots up.
Laugh and make a mockery of the bad decisions, but at the end of the day just enjoy the fights that are great without letting a bad decision
ruining the greatness of witnessing a terrific performance by the fighters.

Marquez 4-0 over Manny Pacquiao, I'll always think about the great fights all of them were first before I think about the corruption in them.

As explained above the punch counting clearly doesn't work. That being said I think the current system could be tinkered with because it has rendered some questionable results. Maybe use five judges but only select 3 at random as the official scores, going to the other two if there is a draw. Make it more difficult to buy the judges. Also is there any form or training for professional judges, maybe that needs improvement.

Punch counting in real time does not work, but with all camera angles, slow motion for close fights with a delayed reading of the scorecards actually would.

What would be a solution is get Honest & uncorruptable State Commissions or better still One International Commission. When has a State Commission EVER dragged a judge before them to explain a ludicrous scorecard then if they cannot then Fire Them. Trouble is the State Commissions are in on the game anyway
    $$$$$$$$$$$$ Is the REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if we could accurately count the number of landed punches does a Paulie Malignagi straight count the same as Manny Pacquiao's? Because their opponents would say no they don't. And when do we get the official determination, do we wait around the arena for an hour to get the official decision? That would let the air out of the arena.

As mentioned above, 5 judges sounds like the best option with the main 3 only being known by the boxing commission.

I understand why he'd be frustrated. That being said those two that did not see it his way could have just as easily been 2 of the 3 under the current system. 5 judges wouldn't cut down on variant scorecards but it would certainly make it more difficult to tamper with.

Well, if noone gets visibly affected by those punches, because one guy hits harder but the other is more sturdy, yea they should count the same. The power is a bonus effect, because it has the potential to end/change the fight or change the round or have an effect later in the fight. Also you don't fight the same way if you respect the opponents power, whereas a light hitter won't deter a pressure fighter much.

Yes, it could take little longer than the actual fight, but in 90% of the cases it won't be needed. So you'd rather have a wrong decision, just because you can't wait? Let somebody else fight in the meantime. there are enough options.

5 judges wouldn't help much, because it isn't very likely that the issue is incompetence. If it was, home/featured fighters would suffer as much from it as the visiting ones instead of 95/5. Did Escudero get robbed because of 2 incompetent judges? No, he got robbed because he fought in George's country as a foreigner.

And point counting doesn't work either.

It's more about not knowing which of the 5 judges to bribe

Of course the comission has shown corruption in the past. But at least with 5 judges, 3 would be chosen on the day of the fight unbeknowest to the judges themselves.
