I have gone back and looked at historic punchers, Foreman, Shavers, Liston, Louis One thing is clear, none of these guys hit as hard as Wilder and to be honest, it isn't particularly close. Sure all those guys hit hard, and if they hit a ropey chin flush on they could knock your lights out. But the difference with Wilder is simple. Whoever he hits flush, WHOEVER. Gets knocked the **** out. Those other guys I seen plenty of fights where they land flush like 50 times and the other guy takes it. Name me the guy who took Wilders big right hand, flush on the chin and wasn't ktfo Don't start with Fury as he WAS ktfo and God decided to send him back Wilders power is insane, the only way to beat him is to not take a single power shot off him for 12 rounds. And it doesn't even matter if you have a good chin.
This is absolute truth, Deontay is all power. He also has pretty good chin accounting from him surviving Ortiz's barrage in the first fight and he stayed upright from Fury's 1-2 combo for 12 rounds. (side note: The Brits have the best 1-2 in the business besides Larry Holmes.) Deontay has zero boxing form or technique but when he hits you with that wild ass hook or jab you're going to sleep. Modern Martial Artist really tried to clean his style up in this video but I pray that Wilder someday starts to be more cautious as a HW fighter. He's gonna get countered mean one day. I agree I would like to see Wilder develop his defence, his power always gets the job done but he doesn't need to be taking risks like he does.
Deontay Wilder is arguably the most explosive puncher ever but I serious doubt he was heavier-handed than Shavers, Foreman, or Bruno. Glass-chinned Spilka took several clean rights with little effect before the KO. Duaphas (sp?) ate TONS of clean shots from Wilder; only a few really hurt him. While not Wilder's fault, who exactly has Wilder fought who is defensively sound other than Fury? With that being said, Wilder does have very heavy hands PLUS he has that freaky snap on his punches PLUS he has very quick hands AND he has a awkward rythm where he can deliver a devastating a shot when the opponent was not ready. That is the key combination to Wilder scoring highlight reel KOs. Don't get me wrong, Wilder is a scary guy in the ring but he is fighting in a weak era of heavyweights through no fault of his own. He is one of most devastating punchers ever but still I believe a few heavies in history had heavier hands.
I would imagine the hardest puncher in history would have more title defenses that ended in the first half of the fight.

The difference between Wilder and say, Foreman, is the snap in the power itself. I don't think Wilder is a more damaging puncher than Foreman, Tyson, Lyle, and notable others, but the whip action is more likely to render you unconsciousness for that obviously crucial 6-10 second period that will (obviously again) convince a referee you're a gonna. A great example is the Brezeale KO. No doubt Dom felt like he could continue and continue well once he was back on his feet ... 12 seconds later, but unfortunately for him, 10 seconds (in reality much less if the ref feels it's a safety issue) is long enough to see you take the "L", even if little long term damage has been absorbed. TL;DR I feel there have been greater bone crushers in history, but for inflicting short-term unconsciousness Wilder is probably the best ever.
Wilder has a really powerful right hand. he carries the power late in the fight and it can bail him out of trouble at any time. However, best ever. Let me think about it....1 second...NAH.

No one is claiming Deontay Wilder is a Pro-Social lovable Greta Thunberg/Obama character or some fake smile act that the peasants love, Wilder exists for the same reason the Nuclear arsenal exists...Emotional-Physical punishment for the peasants...For some evolutionary reason...Wilder was bred so powerful & destructive...few generations down the line a King arises...A common theme in Imperial history...No self-made Emperor arises out of the beta-male civilized peasant/citizen pool...The script will not go good with the majority of Beta Male peasants...but Deontay Wilder is the hardest puncher to ever walk Earth
