I think he did try, but he knew how much he had in the tank and that's probably why he did not throw hard shots: he knew his gas tank was on E thanks to the battering he'd taken in the Yarde fight and in the training camps and the weight clause. If he tried to blow Canelo out he probably would have been sucking wind long before the 11th. FWIW, even this shell of Kovalev was winning on points* in the 11th. His strategy nearly paid off.

If you want to cash out fair enough but keep your mouth shut afterwards and ride off into the sunset, these comments are very bitter

I dont blame Kovalev for making these statements as it must be very embarrassing to be koed by a much smaller man.
The short turn around from the tough Yarde match sure didnt help but Kovalev ultimately chose to go ahead with the money grab. The blame rests on his shoulders and nobody else.

They tried to lock me up in an insane asylum when I said that Yarde stood a good chance of beating Kov and I must say it felt most surreal picking that little ginger roid toad to not only beat Kov but actually KO him too, something that no boxing fan of sane mind would've predicted in a million years had Kov been even remotely close to his prime. Prime Kov stretches the ginger toad 100 times out of 100 and in brutal fashion too.

Btw, Canelo's buttlickers, who were arguing with me and calling me names wont like this thread, ahaha. Now not some anonymous, but Kovalev himself told us facts that completely shatters ginger's "legendary" win.

Thing is if Kovalev knew he had little chance and wasn’t fit enough he should have put everything in that first three rounds to get Canelo out of there. People have tried that before in boxing. Kell Brook took it to GGG and tried to genuinely knock him out in the first three rounds because he knew he had no chance over the distance - he has my eternal respect for that (not that my respect means anything to him). In a similar vein, Scott Cardle who is way over the hill tried to knock out Lewis Ritson in the first round and nearly managed it. It’s a G-move to just come out blasting.

Kovalev should have tried that, he probably will regret it for life.

I said it in my thread too. I dunno if Kovalev will regret it, since he fought him in a way, that wont get him a win no matter what, even if he had won every single round. Kovalev knew that he cant win on points, but still didnt even try to throw power punches? Lol, he wont regret **** dude, he didnt even want to win in the first place, just getting money and having easy fight throwing pitty pats.

An honorable and admirable plan, but, to be fair, how many times has Alvarez even been down in all his career? Zero?
He's never fought at light heavyweight, though, I understand.

Yeah that’s the thing. In hindsight Kovalev was probably trying to go the distance in a relatively close fight (most had him up at the time of the stoppage) and then come out of the fight with full credibility, able to claim a “robbery”.

Whenever I look back at that GGG-Brook fight I get tingles down my spine and so amped. The crowd was so electric, it was just amazing to see him land bombs.

Canelo has an ATG chin and defence but I really think a flush Kovalev punch would have seriously hurt him.

Well, this makes him look worse than actually losing. That fight didn't look on the level.
