Your favourite and least favourite British trainers

I'd want McGuigan to train me and also like to have Peter Fury in my corner for advice in the fight.

Watched Smith vs Ndam last night for the first time. High guard, walk forward. Just reminded me once again as mentioned here, Gallagher fighters are all in that mould, even Paulie mentioned the high guard style within 2 rounds.

 

Crolla and Liam Smith wouldnt have won world titles with Booth.

Ryan Burnett took a shocking amount of damage employing Booths 'elusive' hands low style and Kelly and Conlon are hardly making great strides with it either.

Always believed he was a bit of a bullshitter as a trainer. Clearly very clever guy though.

 

He somehow steered the Toe to a World Heavyweight Title and introduced the Mo Farah method to the ring for 36 minutes.

 

It was Lee Beard who jumped in with Hatton when he was having the Mayweather Sr disaster. Don't know a great deal of what he's up too now but last I heard he was training Vijender Singh. I'm sure Jack Catterall worked with him prior to Jamie Moore as well?

Paddy Fitzpatrick and Groves don't get on.... Groves not happy with the advice in the Badou Jack fight and making reference to the training (e.g. Paddy turning up and taking training in flip flops lol). He has a gym in Swindon and he trains the Cruiserweight that got chinned by Okolie in 3 rounds at the York Hall (can't for the life of me remember his name just now).

 

Surprised that Mark Tibbs and Tony Sims aren’t getting any mentions on this thread. They normally divide opinion

I like Sean O'Hagan, Warrington's trainer/father. He's worked wonders with Josh who's now right up at the very top of his division and one of the best fighters in the country. Seems like a sound dude as well.

 

What about Bob Shannon? Anyone know if he’s still training fighters? Had Hatton for his comeback fight

 

Jim Mcdonnel was on my dislike list for a long time after Degale vs Groves.

Like Mcguigan and McCracken the most currently

 

I wasn't a fan either, but I think the result and proof of inept advice through James' career proves the Essexian guy was a good boxer but never made to be a trainer

 

I know Degale has a lot of haters but I stand by him being one of the most naturally talented British boxers I can remember. McDonagh had no idea what to do with said talent.

Loved my reebok pumps as a wee guy, then my next proper favourite trainers were my nike air hurrache's. follwed by my puma discs. Overall though it has to go to the air max's time has told they are the GOAT.

They cost way too much nowadays though, £100 for a pair of trainers is getting far too much now.

 

They’re not British.

 

I think I would get McCracken to train me on the eye test. Booth and McGuigan would certainly be considered.

Not sure about Ingle, maybe his late father if it was years ago but not Don.

Truthfully you wouldn't know what the trainers are like until you worked with them.

I certainly wouldn't call any of the coaches named in the thread bad trainers.

I couldn't let Coldwell train me though.....
