I think he's round about the age he says he is, maybe a tad older. He just has one of those old Sitting Bull type faces that puts about ten years on him. Probably lived a really hard life as well, which tends to age you.
Ortiz is as my momma used to say "older than God". Or at least, if it is an exaggeration to call him the first life form, or the first multi-celled creature, or the first vertebra, or even the first mammal... iI not, at least he was the very first fully modern man, Homo Sapien. Scratch that, the sloping instead of bulbous braincase seems to indicate that he was a transitional example, an archaic Homo Sapien. Maybe the first, perhaps incubated in North Africa, & archaelogical evidence + forensic dating techniques & related research in the last 2 years shows this must have been near 300,00 years ago. If he & his distinctive skull is considered completely modern, then 200,000 BCE is more likely. If actually the only Neanderthal that did not go extinct, he would still likely be a similar age. The Rumble in the Jungle has been broadcast on television a thousand times or more since it took place. A five year old could watch it for the first time today, if he likes. Ortiz's age has been consistent from his amateur days throughout his pro career. He didn't need to lie about his age when he was fighting on television in the amateurs in his 20s. He doesn't need to now. The people who keep starting these threads every time he fights are morons. Tyson Fury looks like my 55-year-old cousin.
He said he watched Ali fight _live_. My source didn't mention the Rumble in the Jungle specifically, but even the Berbick / Holmes fights would make him a few years older than stated.
I am convinced he is late 50's. He looks older than Frank Bruno who is 58, older than Lennox Lewis who is 54, Ortiz looks awful for an active boxer.
He's from Kong Island... birth records got lost in the last vulcanic eruptions, so no way to estimate give or take 100 years exactly the age of Kong!
No we can't "just believe him" because Cubans are ALWAYS older than they claim to be and don't have genuine birth certificates. He's not a day younger than 45.
You have to believe he's one of the best atheletes on the planet to believe he's at this level at 45+. I don't think that highly of ortiz
