Lennox Lewis 1 day before the fight: "Normally i go with the boxer and not the puncher, but in this case i go with the puncher. Why? Because i saw Ortiz vs Christian Slater (PS: Lewis ment "Hammer" but said "Slater") and in the 1st or 2nd round, Slater connected with him and Ortiz was already a little bit concussed. That means he is easy concussed and can not take much punches." With all respect i have for Ortiz and his skills, but: a) he has no names in his record b) he is at leat 40, but arguably more like 45-50 years old c) he was never hit by an elite puncher except Wilder (so his chin is unknown) d) he was totally overhyped by Wilder fans, see a video from Youtuber "Hatman Strikes Back" about it: This content is protected He makes a very good comparation from Ortiz to Wladi and Povetkin when it comes to resume and archivements. Yes, Wilder is definately an all time puncher in HW, absolutely he is! But there are people out there which can stand up to his punches, someone like Dahaupas already took many of his right hands without going down (he went down later but not by 1-2 punches). So maybe some Wilder die hard fans should maybe step down a little bit and claiming for example that AJ has no chance or Wilder defeated Fury by KO. Wilder himself just stated in his post fight "Fury has a win over Klitschko and a KO defeat vs me", only in YOUR view, Deontay! I respect you for all of your archivements, but please stop to make the unproven and old Ortiz so big and dont claim you KOed Fury and only blame Jack Reiss for it! You dropped Fury 2 times and 2 times he stood up and dominated you the rest for the round, not once but twice! This was no coincidence, you can not hit Fury properly if he is 100% focused, you tried with everything you had after the 2 KDs, but when his focus came back to 100% you were unable to connect with him. Deal with it and please dont say you WON BY KO against Fury, it is simply not true. And like Mr Lewis already said, my german fellow countryman Hammer (not Slater ) already gave your so called Boogeyman some difficult moments and the Boogeyman was unable to stop Hammer or hurt him...Fury stopped him in 2015 BTW or lets say he made him quit. My bottom line is: How much was Ortiz tested before he faced Wilder in their first fight? I mean tested by getting hit by some very heavy punchers? His skillset is very good, but his archievments and list of opponents is a little bit questionable. I dont CLAIM all of this, i only name it. Would you agree or disagree? Feel free to write your honest opinion.
Only notable wins is Jennings and Hammer. I would say you can debate Ortiz is between 9 - 15 amongst the top HWs. So yes, Ortiz is very overrated when PBC try to make him out an avoided bogeyman of the divison (yet he turned down an offer to fight AJ).
Nah, Ortiz is a good fighter that's way past his shelf expiry date. Chop 10 years off him and he'd settle Wilder's hash.
He is at least 40 years old. Speculation is he might be older. He is a product of the Cuban amateur system which means he's been training and fighting for a long time. Lots of miles on that body. I don't think he can go ten-twelve rounds any more. At some point grandpa slows down and needs a nap. Harsh but with a grain of truth. Plus, give some credit to Wilder, there is no doubt the dude hits hard.
Ortiz can box, and was in great shape. He gives any HW in the top 10 a tough night, if not beats them. Funny how no one else wants to fight him though. It's hard to build a resume when guys like Dillian Whyte drop out of title eliminator fights with you. When Matchroom had him, Eddie wouldn't put Ortiz anywhere near his top guys. There's a reason he doesn't have a resume and it's not his fault. Hell, he just fought the hardest puncher in boxing twice in 2 years. You think he's scared of any other HW?
Why you guys like to discredit this man so much is beyond me. This guy has been schooled in the sweet science in cuba no less and is indeed a very good boxer. To have him placed in 9-15 is an insult. He is a top 5 heavy weight. The only thing people can say is, " He is too old, he is ancient". No one can doubt his skill in the ring. I guess anything you can come up with to discredit the current champion with 10 DEFENCES of the title, you will. The Hate and Bias amongst other things is unrivaled when it comes to this man.
Top 5? Based on what? There are many fighters in the divison with better resumes. Ortiz nationality isnt a valid reason to have him in the top 5.
Exactly, he's a decent well schooled boxer, but has poor defense, slow (but decent) footwork, poor stamina and output and a glass jaw. Apart from that he's amazing...
