Obviously this has been done before, but I thought I'd get my hands on it before LaMotta did. How does this one go, 15 rounds, 18.5ft ring, 50s rules?
Damn .... .. I love both... Roy is superior in athleticism and skill in my opinion as well as speed. However tho .... Archie was ruler of 175 for quite a while he comes from a. Time where grit and heart matters alot .... Roy jones jr starts out schooling Archie moore. In the first 7 rounds til Archies heart and grit come in . Archie had that. Don't give up attitude... He was a hungry son of gun... Archie drops. Roy in the 8th ..then continues. Stopping him. Roy Archie via brutal KO 9th
I expect Moore to get all the picks here, but I'd actually say Roy decisions him. I wouldn't pick Roy over Charles, Spinks, and Foster, but I think he could get by Moore.
The Old Mongoose was quite a fighter and man. I actually met him at our local Junior High, he told us that being a law abiding human being was important as well as getting an education. He provided us with a truck load of ice cream, and the tapes to watch of his fights with Ali, in 1962, and Marciano, 1955. Both Archie Moore and Roy Jones Jr, were gifted athletes in their respective era's. But in a match, the experience and perseverance would be enough to overcome Jones skill and speed. Archie by TKO 10, he befuddles Roy with his crab like defense, and counter punching. Both are great fighters.
I see Moore getting dropped early, looking in big trouble. But Archie battles back, gets himself into his groove and Jones starts looking uncomfortable. Mid ninth round, Moore connects so hard with Jones chin that he's out before he hits the floor!
Archie will set his traps and a guy dangling his left hand at his thigh is going to get hit clean. Bad ko as well, like the Tarver one.
Moore would land a vicious counter whilst being behind on the scorecards. Roy would fighting safety first here. Probably around the tenth (assuming a 15 rounder).
