Is this where scores being declared during a fight would be a huge positive. Ryder being 9 rounds down after 6 minutes he would have known he has only 1 chance of winning and it is a KO. Think it would give fighters a much better knowledge of what they need to do and could actually lead to some fireworks. Especially a boxer high on adrenaline realising he is about to get royally stiffed
Mate I completely agree. The fact also all week Smith has been saying he treats all of his fights the same, because there all must win. Then says can't get up for 'lesser' fights. Your right its just poor excuses. Ok so he clearly wasn't at his best tonight, that's also partly down to Ryder and yes we know Smith can fight better. I've gone right off him now to be honest, his arrogance is through the roof. Just have to listen to his IFL interview after the fight, saying the best version of him likely would of sparked Ryder. I've said it before but the fact he wants to just face career middleweight sized fighters (BJS, GGG, even Jacob's!) tells you everything about his ambition imo. You never hear him mention Plant for example another title holder, you hear him say he wants to unify, yet none of the fights he talks about except BJS are title holders. Never hear him say he wants to challenge a belt holder at LHW.
Exactly that. He is great and I like him a lot, but it's guard, counter, guard. Floyd dismantled him because he's amazing but another good (and big) robot like Smith has a decent chance.
I think canelo uses it to open lesser opponents up tho. Mostly because he knows they have nothing to hurt him with. Whereas smith was getting hit cause he couldnt get out the way against ryder. Canelos shots would seriously hurt smith if last night was anything to go off. Ryder had him in full retreat mode. Smith was shattered at one point. Canelo wont mess about with him if he gets him in that position. He needs to re assess after last night for now imo. Give ryder the rematch and rebuild working towards a bjs or eubank junior type fight. Canelo would murder him if hes anything like last night. Seen smith like that too many times so far without really facing anyone barring groves. But it is starting to point to groves being damaged goods going in tbh.
That got my attention, too. @Citizen Smith , the Mayweather fight was in 2013, Canelo is a different beast now. He is elite and certainly not one dimensional. He can win in lots of different ways.
Caught up on the fight late last night. Horrific scoring, absolutely horrific. It's rare everyone on social media is actually in agreement on something and everyone not from Liverpool saw this for what it is. Ryder made Smith miss a lot at range and then worked him over on the inside. 8-4 Ryder, it wasn't a particularly hard fight to score either. That's three times now he's been shafted on the cards, have to feel sorry for the lad. Bellew embarrassing as ever during this. Gallagher his usual intolerable self. Last few weeks it seems Andy Lee has started to make that shift from useful pundit to company man too.
Canelo put on an absolute clinic against Jacobs, it was shades of Mayweather and I’m not even trying to take the **** when I say that. It was an absurdly good boxing performance. It Billy Joe did that we’d all wank ourselves silly.
I mean, it's just a weird and reductive reading of how Canelo fights. He showed he is willing to stand and trade in the second GGG fight. He is best as a counter puncher but he parries and slips more than he just catches on his guard. He is able to out jab fighters with a longer reach as well as he manipulates distance brilliantly. Guard, counter, guard is just an awful reading of him as a fighter.
I hear what you're saying. It's more or less what he does and he is brilliant at it. Kovalev threw 570 jabs but landed only 10% as most were hitting gloves. Obviously he's not the sum total of just his guard but it is the major part of his game.
Brilliant slick lateral movement, head movement, footwork, speed, timing, power, brilliant chin, tremendous boxing IQ, adapts pre and during the fight. Absolute elite level fighter. Improves every fight. Should have a couple of losses on his record but I can’t pick many to beat him now.
All the bias and corruption just makes people dislike the fighters which is a shame tbh.Asking the two brothers their scorecards mid fight was ridiculous and shouldn't be allowed if you want any kind of impartiality.Passing the blame to judges who can't be questioned or scrutinized personally is farcical tbh considering the buck ultimately stops at them.And the crowning turd in the water pipe bellew proclaiming canelo wants no part of smith.Bad night at the office chaps.
