Rounds 1-6 were close and I can understand how scorecards differ on those. However from round 7 onwards Ryder was the boss of the fight and dominating clearly.

 

So I take it you score jabs and power punches equal.

Canelo showed better defense, landed the cleaner punches, landed at a higher percentage and made GGG change his style while Canelo used one of his more common styles.

The only areas you can make some kind of argument that GGG bested Canelo is probably ring generalship.

Yknow what I thought Ryder won this 7-5 or 8-4 initially but I was wrong. Damn close fight. Some real nip and tuck stuff with many close rounds.

 

I dunno Smith got a lot of rounds at that point too. It was even the whole way throughout until the last two rounds.

 

Listen dude I gave it 7-5 to Ryder the first time but a second time it was 6-6 with at least four very close rounds.

 

Jabs count for quite a lot too mate. You can easily win a fight on a jab.

 

Yes. Spot on, this is exactly how I see it. The second viewing made it very clear to me.

 

If it neutralizes the opponent. But if your only landing an avg of three more punches per round and those punches are jabs.. it's hard to argue that those three jabs win over clean power punches.

 

The difficulty with scoring the fight is that Callum was throwing a lot of punches at range that were not scoring shots. Alot of them missing, falling short, falling wide or being blocked. I think alot of people scoring the fight for Callum were scoring some of these shots as landing. Unless they land they are not scoring shots.

The first 6 rounds is difficult to score because this was when Ryder was more cautious and I can see how people could give Callum alot of thosr rounds.

The issue people have with the fight is the scorecards of 116-112 and 117-111 to Callum Smith. Ryder for me won 5 of the last 6 rounds very CLEAR. So even if you gave all of the first 6 rounds to Callum, then its not possible to come to such a wide card. The widest card you could be coming to is 115-113 to Callum Smith.

I would in any case question how you could give all the first 6 rounds to Callum Smith when it was so close. It was a cagey and close first 6 rounds but not a blow out for Callum Smith.
