I was actually there so didn’t post it live during the event. But at the arena I remember thinking he’s 1 or 2 up here but it was close. There’s lots of close rounds and for all the TV watchers you don’t see as much as you do when (close to) ringside. I think that’s why TV followers are often pissed at scorecards when even losing fighters/coaches/promoters etc accept it. Maybe that is something that needs looking in to in future, a bit like VAR in the football, have 3 guys watching it on video monitors with no commentary and add their scores in to it and I guarantee you they’d be different.

Just to add if Ryder would’ve got it by a round or two there wouldn’t have been much complaint from me. It was a close fight in which I think the right man won, just. It certainly weren’t 117-111!

 

Yeah it's definitely different live than it is on the TV. Better angles and replays etc. I'd encourage you to re-watch if you have time and see if your stance changes. I had 8-4 Ryder and honestly didn't think it was a difficult one to score.

My missus is a proper casual, although she does always watch the boxing with me and will watch the IFL’s sometimes.
She went out of the living room on Saturday and sat and listened to music because she was upset (I know this sounds dramatic) that Ryder got jobbed like that. She’s since said that there doesn’t seem to be any point watching boxing because it keeps happening and it’s corrupt.

My point to this is these kind of judges scorecards turn people away from the sport. Spud gave Ryder the 5th, 7th & 11th rounds...the other 2 muppets gave Ryder only 4 rounds...4 rounds!!! There is too much ‘off the radar’ money swinging round for the officials in boxing. I’m not talking brown paper envelopes, I’m talking people managing to keep getting officiating work because they keep scratching the back of the fighter with the big promoter ie. It was a close round, I’ll give it him because further down the line i‘ll get asked back to do a job on a big card at Wembley or the O2. It might not be a conscious thing but it’s there!

 

Yes, those score cards were shocker. It was a good, scrappy fight and tight enough but when it's scored like that it's sickening as we have no say in anything.

Let's get behind this folks. Maybe we can make a difference. Younger posters get busy in social media. Etc. Anybody got any ideas or suggestions? How about team Ryder hiring a flat bed truck or double decker bus with huge banners draped down the sides saying something punchy like"John Ryder - people's champion" or " cheated not defeated" and driving all round Liverpool for a week.
