This vid makes the arguement that it`s rude to compare Wilder to Ali like some are doing now simply because of Ali`s character and impact on the sport, is this right? I agree because I don`t like that modern fans don`t understand just how famous and loved Ali was during his title reigns.

Ali wasn’t loved until he won as a massive underdog against Foreman in 74.Until then as many people couldn’t stand him as wanted him to become champion again. The cult of Ali really took off from then on though his global appeal and fame were soon overshadowing his declining boxing abilities by that time.

Yes it’s wrong but fun to do so I don’t mind. Ali fought top guys regularly. He fought some bums and had some off nights but he was from an era in which you couldn’t just fight bums and talk smack. Wilder has tremendous power but his level of opposition needs to improve before he can be compared to ATGS. I hope he fights all of the top guys because he’s fun to watch. Like a home run hitter in baseball.

It is a shame he isn't a bigger star. There's lots of blame to go around. But he really should have a better resume by now. He has the tools and looks to have become a HUGE and major star. That ship's passed IMO.

Yes, it's wrong. It's like comparing Picasso to the guy who sells sketches of Elvis outside Graceland.

    Depends what you mean ?

    Head to head fantasy fights?

No nothing wrong with that. Nothing at all

    Its called. Styles make fights.

Not saying wilder beats ali. But there is nothing wrong with comparing two fighters head to head fight

No. Emotional nonsense aside comparing Athletes is normal. The human mind wants a frame of reference. How many times have we seen say Kobe Bryant compared to Jordan? To Lebron? Bobby Fisher compared to Magnus Carlsen? Joe Montana to Tom Brady? It’s natural to do this.

The key is to compare analytically. Compare footwork, the jab, power, speed, punch resistance etc etc and rule out nonsense statements like “Ali would toy with him then knock him out”. Or “Wilder would make Ali’s head explode with a right hand”. If you compare using logic, back up your beliefs with real world examples, all while controlling your own nostalgia and emotion, it’s fine.

I love how people always seem to forget what a ******* Ali was to Frazier. Ali callously referred to Frazier in appalling racial terms — specifically as a "gorilla" and an "Uncle Tom" — while portraying himself as the hero of the oppressed African-American. In Ali's narrative, Frazier was simply a tool of white America.

When the U.S. government tried to freeze out Ali as part of its campaign to destroy him, Frazier came forward to help him. Gave Ali money and support. Frazier, whose earnings paled next to Ali's, could never understand why the man he once assisted would mock and insult him so viciously, even if it was an act.
The taunting of Frazier was Ali’s most savage, but it was by no means unique. He used to berate and belittle his opponents at every opportunity, all in the name of ‘promotion’.
To some, Ali’s “character” was horrible. Compare away.

If you’re suppose to be the greatest then naturally you would expect to be the beachmark for every subsequent champion after you to be compared and matched against you. Matching Wilder against Ali is nothing unusual and could even be seen as being traditional.

Ali would make Wilder look even stupider than he is.
