After watching Luis Ortiz "outbox" Wilder for most of the fight and then being dropped by that murderous right-hand, how do you think Holmes would do against Wilder? We know that the Easton Assassin had a vicious left jab and destructive right cross...but he was dropped several times himself. The question is, would the prime Holmes of the early 80s outbox and stop Wilder or would he be knocked out himself? Thoughts?
Easton Assassin. Not Eastern Assassin. Holmes was from Easton, Pennsylvania. Hence the name. And Wilder would have a puncher's chance, but short of that, Holmes lights him up and stops him.
Larry beats the **** outta Wilder Schools him, shuts him out and stops him. Would Wilder even be favoured over Witherspoon?
Holmes busts him up with the Jab, got to be careful cos Wilder can be murderous obviously. But more than likely Larry gets a point win.
I'd add that while I'd pick Holmes, Wilder might stand the best chance of upsetting Holmes than any other greats - not counting the greats like Marciano, who would beat too small. Wilder has virtually no chance against Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Lewis, Louis, Liston, and Holyfield. Not much of a chance against Bowe either. Slight puncher's chance against Frazier, but not a good one. But he MIGHT land a hailmary that takes out Holmes. It's doubtful, but the possibility is there.
Witherspoon was a 14-0 unknown when he fought Holmes who would be knocked out in his prime in one round by Bonecrusher. Wilder would be favored over him.
It's kind of a pointless question. Holmes would outbox Widler, but if he got caught like he did against Snipes it would be game over.
Essentially this. I'd put money on Holmes using Wilder's head like a speedball, but Wilder's got a puncher's chance against all but the hardest chins.
We both know Spoon never showed up like he did for Holmes again, that was his peak. Wilder vs Witherspoon is a 50-50, coz you can say what happens when Wilder lands, but what happens when Wilder does **** all for 7/8/9 rounds and Witherspoon is smashing him with overhand rights? I don't think Wilder takes that
