He was a 10-1 favorite. His loss this weekend was a disaster for his career.

 

Getting beat last weekend didn't help his cause.

 

“I haven’t had a conversation with Oscar. He just showed up to the [key to the city] event, and very little words. I haven’t sat down with him. I haven’t talked with him,” said Cancio.

If he feels hes being shafted wouldnt this be a way to get his way a little?

“I just want to be treated as a world champion and not just some guy who got lucky,” said Cancio. “I didn’t get lucky. I worked my butt off to get here. I don’t want to be working, and fighting, my entire career. I want to focus on boxing. In order to do that, I need to make the big money in bigger venues. Maybe they’ll put me on a Jaime Munguia undercard one day.”

Well thats the perception. Who is Machado? In boxing if you arent a star you have to be consistent and become popular.

I sell out Fantasy Springs, but I would like Golden Boy to move me around to different spots so I can get a bigger fan base.

Again he isnt a star he should be happy that he has at least a very supportive local base, a lot of fighters dont.

ancio is also irritated that Leo Santa Cruz is fighting for the WBA’s 130-pound “super” title on Saturday while he holds the “regular” version. Instead of elevating Cancio to the sanctioning body’s “super” champion when Gervonta Davis vacated the title, the WBA left Cancio out in the cold, and now Santa Cruz makes his division debut on the same night as the co-feature on a big fight card in Las Vegas featuring heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder against Luis Ortiz.

I think this is a very relevant issue and agree with Cancio.

Ultimately I can't fault Cancio for pushing for the most money I mean he basically said on the Atlas podcast he was ready to quit boxing. He hasnt had an easy road and he still has a job. I understand that he is trying mightily to strike while the iron is hot. But I also can see Golden Boy not wanting to invest huge amounts of money into a guy who isn't a star and isn't a consistent operator. I like Cancio and hope he rebounds but Alvarado really just blanked him in there in his backyard while he was grumbling about Oscar. I'm not shocked that he is out. I wouldnt be shocked if Alvarado is given similar treatment

Evidently he was supposed to fight on the Canelo undercard until Canelo demanded that Garcia get the fight instead. Penny-pinching aside, why didn't they invest in their guy and put him on before Garcia? It's not like that was a good card...
