Jerry Quarry vs Henry Cooper

Both very good heavies....at their respective peaks, who takes it?

 

A very good match up featuring a very good combination puncher in Jerry Quarry and Our Enery, Henry Cooper. Henry had notable fights, being stopped by Ingemar Johannson, in 1956, knocking down a brash young Cassius Clay, on June 18 1963, in round 4, only to to be a TKO victim in round 5, due to cuts. He then failed to win the World Heavyweight Title from Muhammad Ali, on May 21 1966, in London, losing by TKO 6, receiving 14 stitches to his severely cut eyebrow. He was stopped by Floyd Patterson, on Sept 20 1966, KO 6, in London. He defeated Karl Mildenberger, on Sept 18 1968, by DQ 8, in London, for the European Title. Jerry Quarry lost a decision to Eddie Machen, on July 14 1966, had a win and draw against Floyd Patterson, in 1967. He has wins over Mac Foster, Buster Mathis, and Thad Spencer. He was defeated by Jimmy Ellis by majority decision, in his bid to win the vacant WBA Title. He lost by stoppages to Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. And was TKO'd by Ken Norton, in round 5, in 1975. Both had scar tissue on their eyebrows from previous battles. Jerry wins this one after a few anxious moments after tasting Cooper's famed left hook. Jerry lands a solid right hand to Henry's right eye, releasing torrents of blood onto Quarry and the referee, prompting a stoppage to the fight in favor of Jerry Quarry, in round 3,

Quarry shocks by beating Cooper, not on cuts but actually producing a ko punch. Cooper s famed left hook never really gets a chance to do anything, as Jerry counters and drops Henry in the 3 rd. Cooper s counted out trying to rise.

I think 3 of the 4 eyes are cut/swollen in this. A lot depends on where the bout takes place. And I see no way Cooper is successful if he is the one being the road warrior. He simply has to have the homecourt advantage to win this.

 

Quarry would have beaten Cooper and London on the same night. Fire and dry grass spring to mind.

 

Cooper would be bombed out by Quarry who had more to his game, and a much better chin.
Cooper was a trombone left jab ,left hook merchant ,with no right hand.Quarry beat guys like Patterson and Lyle.

 

But 'Enry was knighted by the Queen.

Hate to say it but Cooper gets sparked out early.
