I didnt say YOU specifically said hagler vs rocky was blasphemy but that sort of subject (a middleweight or light heavy being pitted against rocky) has been suggested several times on this very forum and often the naysayers claim rocky would be too big and strong. There is an obvious inconsistency with some people.

Power lifting has no correlation whatsoever with boxing. Thats a terrible example and i say this with no malicious intent at all.

Old boxers like fitzsimmons or Dempsey KOing tall oafs isn't proof 185 pound marciano could hang with 220+ modern athletes. They are a completely different breed. Training and nutrition is different, they lift weights while in the old days this was considered a sin. They are far more coordinated and have better stamina, pacing, defense, and flexibility. The difference between the nimble and athletic 6'4 237 pound Joseph Parker or 6'5 240 pound bowe who threw dozens of punches and the awkward sloppy carnera, the incredibly underweight 6'4 189 pound carmine vingo or the stocky brawling willard is like night and day. It would be pretty disingenuous and dishonest to claim rocky beating the latter is evidence he could overcome the size difference (along with the athletic and strength difference) of the former.

Id also like to add that several modern big men have more skill than old school fans like to give them credit. Sure, some are embarrassing lard asses like stiverne or guys who rely on sheer size to win, but plenty are well schooled with decent ring IQ. Point being rocky being very short and not having the most polished technique or skill relying on his guts stamina and inside ability while giving up a huge gap in size and athleticism along with skill (especially in the case of guys like Holmes or Bowe) seems like a bridge too far to me if we keep rocky at his career weight under 190.

I just don't see ant consistency here.

You don't EVER see threads where someone brings up say, Ray Leonard vs marciano and making the claim "oh yes even though Leonard is disadvantaged in size, strength, power, chin, stamina, etc but those x factors of speed, cageyness and heart could negate all the glaring weaknesses and become the ingredients for him to win".

athletes in other sports are irrelevant to the discussion unless they take up boxing.

Lennox is in the top 10 for hardest hitters of all time bare minimum. You'd have to be blind or one of his biggest haters to suggest otherwise.

Wilder isnt the heaviest but he's still a very very large man at 6'7 with very ling arms and 220 lbs in several of his fights. People are seriously nominating him as potentially the hardest hitter of all time.

This is somewhat straying from the original topic. My point wasnt about proving bigger=better or that modern guys hit harder and old fighters suck. My point is anytime this thread comes up many old school fans act hypocritical and ignore the enormous size difference but when its the other way around, claiming a fighter smaller than rocky beating him makes you a hater or ignorant and in need of further research.

Lastly everyone acknowledging something doesn't make it true. I still require proof. 180 lbs is an awfully convenient cut off point and ive seen zero evidence of it. Especially in light of all the tall athletic specimens who emerged literally right after marciano's era and made the tall men of old look like cavemen.

You are relentless...you remind me of Rocco Marciano. You just keep boring in.

"you bleed without protest and ache without complaint, if you could be called champion. Obscurity is all you fear!"
On the other hand in an era with multiple belts floating around nobody ever called David Tua Champion.

That is a very hurtful insult, you have mortally wounded me Cecil!
Pain Man ,Black Hercules, and several others too numerous to mention is a complete waste of space whose only claim to fame is a phobic and toxic crusade to demonstrate boxers of the past must necessarily be inferior to today's.
Don't be concerned about him,he is never with us long!

Jeffries was not an oaf nor unathletic, nor was Fulton, nor was Walcott, nor was plenty of other examples of what I said.

My point was that physical strength, the #1 thing that comes with added weight, gives less with more weight added to your frame.

The athletes today in boxing look notably worse than they did before. I don't believe in the evolution of athletes, I believe in PEDs and new usage of performance enhancing equipment such as starting blocks for sprinters and lifting belts for powerlifters. Overall the human race hasn't changed so much, and training methods are nearly the same. Not only that but our diet standards today, overall, are LESS strict than the days of old. Perhaps thats why we have so many fat heavyweight champs nowadays when before the 80s the only fat champion we had ever had was an alcoholic Sullivan? Everyone else was trim and in condition

You are not factoring in boxing genetics as well. It is a simple fact that sometimes the little man hits harder than the big man simply because he is born with such power. Same goes with chin. Marciano had both traits in spades, he's like a miniature Foreman with better defense and infighting. That's what allows him to compete with prime, much more skilled and larger men such as Jersey Joe Walcott
