In the absence of Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) how long would Sonny Liston have been champ?

Don't know about "addict". He liked having sex (as many do) and had more opportunity to have it than almost every other man on earth. Liston was also known for his fondness of women. A lot of athletes and men in general have been actually.

But what is for sure is that Ali's fondness for women messed with his dedication in the 70's.

 

Should have rephrased it to pre banishment Ali lol. He wanted to make as much money as possible before the inevitable.

 

How do you know he was a sex addict ?

 

'sex addict' is a term invented for guys who got caught.

 

If not Ernie Terrell or Williams, possibly Henry Cooper, and maybe Karl Mildenberger, he already destroyed Zora Folley.

 

Both of the above could well be true, but that doesn't mean he was a sex addict.

Lots of men have affairs and lots of journalists use the term incorrectly for effect.

 

The problem was Sonny was already seriously losing momentum as a champion.

Floyd Patterson said that if he fought twice in a year as champion he would be lucky to make ten bucks for himself after tax from the second fight.

The championship careers of Liston, Patterson And Johansson were all effected with the tax situation. They were all better fighters but each were unable to be as good as they could have been fighting just once a year.

Sonny was certainly one of the best heavyweights of all time when at his best. The problem was it is impossible for the greatest fighter to maintain that standard fighting as little ring activity as Sonny was as champion. One round a year. Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis ...anyone would all be going backwards and lose ground with that level of activity.

Unfortunately Sonny was good enough to beat Floyd in one round twice but not last very much further than that as a champion.

 

Most men are. But he was in a position to get a lot more women as opposed to the average male who's using the right or left hand and porn...

 

I heard that as far back as the first Patterson fight in 1962, Liston's trainer, Willie Reddish offered Sonny an evening with an attractive woman sitting at ringside, if he disposed of Floyd rather quickly, he did. Quite an incentive to secure a quick victory and the title.
