Holmes beats up Vitali s face with his cruel Jab. By the 8 th round he's had enough and the ref as to. Holmes TKO 8
Vitali and Vlad would be better fighters than anyone Holmes actually faced - I think both Klitschko's could do it.
Two of my favorites. Holmes was a bit vulnerable to the right hand. Vitali had a good one. And very good boxers like Norton or Witherspoon nearly beat Holmes in his prime. IMO Vitali is harder to outbox than either. Yes you have heard it before, but Vitlai never lost more than 3 rounds in any of his professional fights. Cooney won 4-5 rounds of the 13 before being stopped and might have won more if not for the low blow points taken away. Vitali is a much better boxer than Cooney, and take note Cooney's size did give him some trouble. I'll stop at Williams, who made Holmes look very beatable as an example with his jab, however it did reinforce Holmes had issues with good boxers. Spinks? Larry was in decline by then... Key point, this is not an easy fight for Holmes by any means. Holmes has the edge on speed and the jab. Vitali has the edge on power and size. Both are smart fighters, with good chins. Probably goes the distance, with scoring presence being the difference in close rounds. 50.50
Not really... Vitali is just bigger and tougher. Cooney had good technique , a snapping jab and an excellent left hook. He destroyed the elusive Jimmy Young. Vitali had average technique and didn't have a punch as good as Cooneys left hook. The elusive Byrd never took a hurtful blow from Vitali because Vitali can't put any angles on his punches. Cooney would have a good chance of beating a flat footed Byrd with his left hook. Byrd couldn't dodge Ike hooks when his back was against the ropes , it stands to reason he wouldn't dodge Cooneys either. Cooney tko Byrd. Vitali might beat Cooney , but Cooney was a better boxer in the traditional sense.
