Lol if you want to use that logic then Deontay Wilder is a cruiser weight. Tua weighed 201 for one fight in his career. He was 20 years old then. By the time he was 21 he weighed 215. Then 220 by the time he was fighting his best fights. Marciano weighed 190 when he turned pro. Weighed as low as 178 and spent the rest of his career between 180 and 188 or so. Either way Marciano was far smaller than David Tua. Nice try though kid. Always a way to try to justify Marciano being able to beat a modern sized heavyweight.

Ike said he wasn't sitting down on his punches? So this means what? Lol boxers say stuff all the time. Who cares what he said.

How many modern sized and modern skilled heavyweights did Marciano face? 0 That is how many. But sure he could move up to fight modern sized and skilled heavyweights because you say so right?

Marciano had the greatest chin of all time right? Then you will ignore the fact that 160 to 170 pound club fighter Ted Lowry beat Marciano from pillar to post and could of knocked him out when he chose too. I guess you will ignore that right?

Keep trying to justify Rocky Marciano a tomato can could beat any half way decent modern sized heavyweight. I will ignore you and only type to people who know boxing and don't live in their little fantasy world crying over their TV heroes.

I am assuming you are a troll or just plain silly. Because somebody has a better resume fighting smaller people that means he could beat much bigger guys than him? So what you are saying is Tommy Hearns could beat Marciano then since he had a much better resume? Lol also Marciano didn't have a good resume even fighting guys his own size. Archie Moore was washed up. Ezzard Charles was done. Joe Louis was done and so was Jersey Joe Walcott. I guess since it is Rocky Marciano who beat them we will give him credit for beating has been.

If the men are in more or less the same weight class, it doesn't necessarily follow that the man who fought the bigger opponents, was beating the better opponents.

For example Audley Harrison probably beat bigger men on average than Larry Holmes.

What matters is beating who were able to progress to the top of the division.

There is a bit of a gap between the #1 and the #5 in most eras, and a bigger gap between the #5 and the #10.

There is a huge gap between the #1 and the #10 in every era.

You know what else is sad about Marciano fans? How they pick and choose their information. They will tell you well Tua was 201 pounds for one fight in his career and then pick the heaviest Marciano weighed to try to prove a point. They aren't going to tell you that Archie Moore one of the better opponents Rocky faced was pushing 40 if not old and weighed as low as 140 pounds in his career. They aren't going to tell you that Jersey Joe Walcott was pushing 40 and weighed as low 158 in his career. They won't tell you that Ezzard Charles was past his peak and weighed as low as 160 in his career and Joe Louis was pushing 40 and weighed as low as 181 pounds. But they will find the lowest Tua or some other fighter weighed to try to prove their point.

They won't tell you that Charles, Walcott, Joe Louis, and Archie Moore were all knocked out much easier by other opponents in their primes than Marciano manage to do past their primes. Marciano fans will keep bringing up how the only thing that matters in boxing is skill not weight class right? Then why do we have weight classes in boxing? Why aren't their any 5'10 180 pound guy winning the heavyweight titles since the 50's? If size doesn't matter then why does it only not matter for certain fighters. Fighters like Rocky Marciano, Gene Tunney, and Jack Dempsey. The same people who say these 3 guys could still beat modern sized and modern skilled fighters will never said Bob Foster or some other 175 pound guy like could compete against modern sized heavyweights. These same people who say size doesn't matter will say Marvin Hagler, Roy Jones Jr are too small to beat Marciano because of the size difference. Which is funny since 160 pound Ted Lowry did beat Marciano and did almost knock him out.

For the few legit boxing fans here, we should just ignore these Marciano fans. Ignore any one of these people who can't accept reality. Ignore any person who can't grasp that boxing has evolve since the 1950's and before. Ignore anybody who can't understand there is no 5'10 180 pound boxer who is as slow and unskilled as Marciano who is going to move up and beat the Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Wladimir Klitchkos of the world.

Yeah you are a troll or just plain simple. Larry Holmes is a heavyweight. Audrey Harrison is a heavyweight. They both beat heavyweights. Marciano was a 185 pound fighter who beat guys who weighed that amount or less. On that note I have to block you. I can't take anything you type as being serious.

Actually Marciano's average opponent was 2" taller, 10lbs heavier and had 7" reach on him. Marciano fought his entire career against men larger than him but yet never lost. This strikes fear into the modernists' mind

    Begone foul demon

On the other hand, if Marciano can stand up to more punishment than anticipated, I'd pick Marciano.

David Tua should be getting compared to Tony Galento rather than Rocky Marciano.

Tua would lose to The best guys Marciano beat.

There is no example of Tua beating guys of their level.

Unfortunately for people obsessing over muscles and size..it is difficult for some people to recognise that the cosmetic appearance of modern fighters who didn’t make the grade in their own time is less relevant against all time great fighters.

That’s why it is called “all time great”. It means great in all time.

Modern doesn't always 100% trump old. And if it did (and it doesn’t) isn’t it a bit silly asking why Marciano didn’t beat any modern enhanced fighters when modern enhanced fighters did not exist then?

Different sets of genes? Oh the Samoan bones thing?

Tyson and Tua are two guys from roughly the same era, similar height and build. One started out lighter and later “puffed up” to be the heavier of the two.... but they remain the same kinds of guys. You can’t say Tua is better than Tyson just because later on David became 30lb heavier than Tyson’s championship weight!

Not that I think weight is such a big factor against the greatest of fighters anyway.

However, If one guy starts out over 190 and another guy starts out at 201, it is a similar starting point. After that it is a question of class. And diet.

If you don’t think 253 pound Tua can beat 216 pound Tyson why do you think 189lb Marciano must lose to the 223 pound Tua??

It’s ok for Tyson to give away 37lb but Rocky can’t give away 35lb?

That's what it should mean - but in reality, isn't ATG a term attributed to someone, who was truly outstanding in his OWN time?

Marciano fought 7 men at or under 180lbs. Five of them were 175lbs or under.
Sixteen of his opponents were lighter than him.

Because Tua and Tyson are genuine heavyweights and Marciano was not?
