Lets go back in time. I had Peter winning the fight. Peter was never that good to begin with was making it very competive fight even being shot to ****. I think Samuel Peter in his prime would have mutilated Helenius. Thoughts?
I would favor prime Sam Peter over a lot of fighters, including most of todays crop. But prime Helenius was quite dangerous too and although I certainly favor Peter, it wouldn't have been a walk in the park.
Unfortunately Sam had a very poor work ethic. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, but just a tad lazy. sad to see him still trying to fight
Peter in his prime was damned dangerous. Almost impossible to hurt and strong as a bull. He was often horribly crude and turned up to fights grossly out of shape, which cost him a number of times, but the versions that fought Wlad and Toney II would have given a lot of today's crop kittens. Wilder's right would have been bouncing off his dome all night.
I watched Peter-McCline for the first time last week. I just didn't get around to watching it at the time. Absolute insanity in the early rounds of that fight.
Wilders right hand would put Peter to sleep. McCline on short notice nearly stopped him , getting 3 drops in the early round before he gassed out.. Peter was a shorter version of Dom Breazzele.
He was all types of farked up. And was rocked a couple of more times in the fight. McCline was a handy fighter. Big guy with athleticism. He only started boxing in his mid 20's with either limited or no amatuer experience.
He beats Wilder at his best imo, hes taking them sporadic 1 shots and chugging forward until Wilder is done !
Wilder seems to have bad habit of losing fantasy match ups. Even Ortiz beat him easily until they actualy met and Wilder put him to sleep twice
Fantasy Ortiz had a 84 inch reach untill fight night, then Haymon and Wilder cut it down to 77 inches... height also dropped an inch. Now its only a matter of time for the age correction aswell.
Ortiz was /is overated, not champion material at all, him losing to Wilder proves that. I never ever rated him
Because fantasy match ups are prime vs prime and not prime Wilder vs 55 year old Ortiz like in real life.
I don't think Peter was ever a massive puncher - at least not on the level advertised. But he had immense physical strength, a decent jab for a heavyweight, heavy hands, and a rock solid chin. He would have decisioned Helenius at his best, perhaps with a rough moment late. On a side note, any licensing body still allowing Peter to fight is being highly irresponsible. I saw a recent interview; he's starting to slur and his voice is sounding pretty punchy. It's sad.
For the record I never rated Ortiz, don't think he was ever deserving of being called a top heavyweight while having a worse record than Adam Kownacki after 20 fights.
