No sign of the next AJ in the pros, I was trying to find someone with 7 fights and all ko’s but nothing really. last time we had some hype about someone was fury’s cousin Naylor Ball but he got beat by kamil sokolowski Frazer clarke seems to be the next in line but still in the amateurs at 28 he could have a Joe Joyce type career it puts things in perspective when you think Hughie fury is still only 25 and he’s already fought pulev Parker and Povetkin
Thanks @pow I appreciate your insight. It was a genuine question. I’ve always wondered why so few travellers have reached the top when fighting is ingrained in their culture and DNA unlike the mindset of your average man who avoids physical conflict at all costs.
Ultimate Boxxer line-up later this month is not the best either. I think Sokolowski will win it. But it might bring a decent prospect to light because there are some unbeaten guys and young guys in there.
Some of the most talented fighters I've seen in and out of gyms around the UK have been gypsy lads. Problem is, many begin working from a young age so give it up or lose interest. But given the population of gypsys and the talent pool around now from Dennis McCann to BJS and Fury, they're not doing half bad.....
I’ve spoke about gypsies before in boxing, from my amateur days (roughly ten years on and off) I’ve encountered quite a few and have to say their is a mythology about their boxing/fighting ability. They are just like any other group of people and can truly say i have sparred and boxed a few very talented gypsies, alot of of average to decent and some truly terrible ones literally like aby other demographic. Just because someone is a gypsybdoesnt mean they will be a good boxer or fighter.
I see your point and not expecting every gypsy to be a championship level boxer however from a population of around 150,000 (nobody knows for sure, the official 2011 census was 63,000) they are doing well to have produced 3 world champions in the last 5 years.
yeh they are alot more boxers with travellers background that turned pro in the last few years like the ones mentioned but also hopey price, joyce. felix cash. The wards as well
Frank Warren's team are making a lot of noise about David Adeleye who debuts on the Copperbox card. Cannot say I know much about him but he won the Senior ABA's a few years back.
Vast majority of super heavys in the Uk are black guys. Ive been to the ABAs a few times and say like 10 super heavyweights enter.. usually about 7 or 8 are black. And 99% of them are fat brawler bums. Whereas only maybe 1 super heavy that enters is a traveller and theres more chance of him being good.
