I would make Spinks a strong favorite.

Why so? Is Spinks more modern?

    Yes, I do.

Carpentier was a hype job used by Rickard to cash in on Dempsey. Nothing more. And less really couldn't be imagined.

Of course he is! He's from a time with better trainers, and better conditioned fighters, than back in Carp's day.

The only great fighter Carpentier ever ko'd in 1 round was welterweight Ted Kid Lewis, who had fattened up to157lbs. Carpentier was a full fledged light heavy at175lbs and he accomplished the ko by hitting Lewis on the break.Carpentier beat nobody of note at light heavyweight, and very few at any other weight.
Spinks operated in a strong light heavyweight era, beating among others.

His record at 175lbs shits all over Carpentier's.
