Can't believe I never thought to use the C0ckell fight as a model for how Marciano v. Tua would have unfolded!
I use this example only From a height and reach standpoint. As a target. Rocky just couldn’t miss Don. A lot to do with this had to be that he could reach him much easier.
You gotta be a troll. Giving away 30-40 pounds weighing in the 180's is noticeably different to giving away away 30-40 as a 210 pounder. I'm not even saying Tua would beat Marciano. No matter how good you are beating ATG's while weighing in the 180's vs their 210 plus is immense work so lets not boil things down to simple increments. Sure, one can debate greatness might overcome size when fighting an opponent levels below. The likes of Dempsey and Marciano would be up against it. Louis, Holmes, Ali far less so imo.
David Tua was 220 to 225 in this prime. Second Marciano wasn't great. even for a 180 pound guy. He won the title in a horrible era and only won the title because he was Italian and the Italian Mafia controlled boxing. Muhammad Ali was 6'2 1/2 and weighed around 215 to 220 pounds in his prime. So he Ali is a modern sized heavyweight. He wouldn't have any disadvantage against Tua. Larry Holmes was 6'3 210 to 215 in his prime so he wouldn't have any disadvantage against Tua. Joe Louis on the other hand was 6'1 or so and weighed 195 in his prime. He would be at a disadvantage because of hi weight and because of how boxing has evolved since Louis time. The guys who Louis fought were vastly inferior in terms of skill compared to any top heavyweight since the 1970's.
Let’s get this right. 37lb is still 37lb. You are saying 37lb is more of an obstacle for one already strong man than it is for another strong man? The difference between Tua of the Ibeabuchi fight is exactly the same for Marciano as the difference between Tua of the Sullivan fight is for Tyson. 37lb. Yet it is somehow more of an obstacle for Marciano??? All three men are similar height and reach. Each hit hard. The stumbling block is class not weight. If Tyson has enough class to give away 37lb against an inferior guy just as tall so can Rocky.
Yeah, because that extra weight hindered (not helped) Tua, you simpleton. Marciano was solid as a rock (no pun intended) at 185 - his frame wasn't designed to carry the weight that be would be required for him to pull this off. He was a cruiserweight, by today's standards. If you can't tell the difference, you're pretty slow. Tua would destroy Marciano - not because he's better (cause he certainly is not), but simply because he's too big and powerful.

But things were different in this era. With a similar height and reach as Tua and Marciano Orlin Norris did the same thing. It’s actually quite amazing what could be done during the era that Tua and Norris built up body mass the modern way. When he wanted to be a heavyweight Norris was in line with Tua. He turned pro at 199lb aged 20. Grew to 227lb contender as an exclusive heavyweight then aged 25 Norris dropped to 189 on a whim to become a cruiserweight. After four years of being mostly a cruiserweight Norris again leaped from 188 to 220 to campaign as a 220-246 heavyweight. After another few years of that Orlin incredibly dropped down to cruiser in his late 30s. Amazingly Norris was 196lb for his very last fight aged 40. That’s four pounds lighter than his debut 20 years earlier. Astonishing for a 5’9” guy who was as high as 246lb. But hey, that’s cruiserweights by modern standards for you. Tua would destroy Marciano because he has a 37lb weight advantage ...but using his weight from another fight the forum votes overwhelmingly that Tua can’t beat Tyson even when he is giving away exactly 37lb also? If somebody starts his pro career at 201 pounds today he will be forever remembered as being a former cruiserweight.p no matter how fat he gets.
