I enjoyed it for the discipline, it was obvious he couldn’t trade with Ruiz and he managed to stick to the game plan without gassing out in twelve rounds.
It’s not a masterclass when you’re a foot taller and have a 10 inch reach advantage. The surprise is that AJ actually pulled it off. And he still seemed scared to get hit by Ruiz.
This. Joshua learned a valuable lesson about trying to force the knockout on a durable opponent. I also hope he keeps his weight under 240 lbs in future fights, since he was less stiff.
AJ showed every disbeliever that he could adapt. He should stick to this weight now. Great stamina for 12 rounds. AJ>Wilder.
Yes masterclass. It is up to Ruiz to do something to stop the domination why should Joshua change his style if he is winning every round!
I think Joshua moved a little bit too much than he needed to. There were spots in the fight when he was firing at long range, and hurting Ruiz with those straight jabs. Needed to keep the fight at range, but there were opportunities to really make Ruiz suffer, if he threw more punches on the outside. It was the short hooks that got him in trouble.
Hats off to AJ he did the right thing & tbh this is what I expected of him in the 1st match. Shocked that he got wreckless & traded shots with Ruiz it give Ruiz the only chance he has to win. $mart Boxing by AJ. No need for a 3rd fight let him fight Wilder & Fury winner & let Ruiz fight big baby Miller!
Boxing a masterclass as a 230+lbs guy is hard. Mayweather was 147lbs and when guys missed, he made them pay. You can't do that to the same level when you weigh 100lbs more, so expectations should be realistic. I think that's about as dominant a boxing performance as you could expect from guys this size. I was disappointed in Ruiz and his weight, but even if he was lighter it changes nothing. If a guy with a massive height and reach advantage decides to use those attributes, then what chance is there for a smaller fighter?
I would not have been thrilled if ALL Joshua did all night was dance and jab. You could see he wanted to really engage and he sat down on several left hooks and right hands but they confirmed that Ruiz still has granite whiskers so he smartly went back to boxing safely. Joshua couldn't have beaten Ruiz any other way today.
Not a big fan. But your opponent has to do something about it. But the man has knocked out almost everybody he's fought. He's not a career runner so what's the big deal? He also landed good shots throughout. Had he done nothing but shoeshine, I would be talking very differently.
