If Jerry Quarry kayoed Earnie Shavers in round 1, on Dec 14 1973, Smokin Joe Frazier would brutally knockout Shavers, by round 3. Shavers hit like a sledgehammer, but like most powerful knockout punchers, lacks stamina. Joe could hit, but he had stamina to go 15 rounds, if need be.
I agree with George, Frazier within 3. The skill gap is too large, Frazier would take him out quickly and smoother his attempts at wild punches like Quarry
Frazier would be a very warm favourite and my pick to win as suggested by some here, fairly early. But if somehow they fought ten times, I reckon Shavers picks up three wins...
Shavers could hit....but he had stamina problems...and I don't believe he had a KO after the 7th round...didn't carry his power into the later rounds...never really came up with the big punch when he had to....Frazier all the way.
I've said before, this is a fight Joe Frazier would never want. He should take out Shavers fairly early, but for a round and a half or so Fraziers style puts him in severe danger
Shavers by a knockout. Joe being a slow starter gets caught before he gets warmed up. I dont think he beats the count.
This isn't true Shavers carried his power late. He had a brutal and very dramatic ko over the large 6'5 roy Williams in the 10th round. He was also the only man to ko Williams. It was a hell of a fight and shavers showed unusual willpower. This content is protected
Shavers could bang big time so you can never rule him out of any fight, but Frazier should and would be too good for him... wins by stoppage.
