Crawford vs Postol.

I had Crawford winning every round but the 3rd, with the 5th&11th as 10-8s. So I had it 119-107.

My only criticism here (that wouldn't take essays to explain) is that he looked reluctant to lead before the 12th, and even in leading he wasn't throwing many punches. As I said, there are other neesh ones that would take ages to explain, but maybe I'll do a thread on it.

Bud showed he excellent commitment to a gameplan, showing he could move all night and showed good stamina. He also used his extensive use of movement (courtesy of his use of both stances) to completely nullify Postol's best weapon.

Both of these guys look like creatures that have been pulled out of a tree.

 

Fantastic little fight in the vein of Gonzalez’s first fight with Carbajal. Remarkable comeback from the Thai when he looked down and out at the end of the 6th. The ref could have conceivably stopped it at the end of that round but the bell probably saved Saman from that.

The 7th was an incredible turnaround and I sort of agree with you, Salsanchezfan, it could be construed as a slightly early stoppage given the punishment Gonzalez had previously dished out, but I think the cut probably influenced it too. Had the ref let it go on I think Gonzalez would have either gone down again or the ref would have needed to step in due to the amount of blood streaming from Chiquita’s face.

As easy a fight to score as I’ve seen in a while, I only gave Saman the 2nd due to the flash knockdown he scored, until the stoppage in the 7th.

To his credit, Gonzalez retired after this fight and never fought again, but had already secured his legacy as one of the best ever in the light flyweight division.

 

Would have loved to have seen Chiquita vs Yuh. Imagine the firefight.

Excellent fight, Nelson fighting off the ropes was excellent and Fenech was an animal. Oh and this decision was horrendous.

Finally watched the whole of this one. Crazy fight, both fighters showed incredible heart and Chang’s chin in particular was phenomenal.

The way he celebrated at the end shows how far he was pushed by Tokashiki. A great fight!

 

I watched Mike Rossman v Dwight Qawi (then still known as Dwight Braxton) today for one particular reason. When I saw it back in '81 I recall watching it from a small screen - battery operated B & W TV in the back of a car. With all the chatter going on I was concentrating on this fight and there was one thing jumping out at me. Not that there was anything wrong with the stoppage - legit count out. Nor with the score up to the KO. In the back of that car I did not see Rossman land a decent shot. Today I said I'm going to look at this because in 7 rounds he had to land something. Well, he did and I actually gave him a share of the 6th round while Braxton took off most of the round. But it was a dominant performance by Braxton. And I might add, the clarity of the film was a helluva sight better than that tiny screen back in '81.

 

Really is a great fight, Rough showed me it. One of my favourites. In fact I think I had it in my top 5 fights of all time.

 

Not outrageous by any means. I'm pulling together a personal top 50 at the moment and it's now in there. I've watched it 3 times in as many weeks. Last night was the first time I scored it though. Had it tighter than @PhillyPhan69 and the judges but also managed to disagree with my informal scoring from the previous viewing. I'm nothing if not inconsistent!

Also, shout out to @Flea Man for getting this into the Boxing News top 100 fights of all time.

 

Joe Tatsuyoshi vs Sirimongkol Singwancha

Excellent fight, I didn't score it RBR. I was too gripped, thanks to @roughdiamond for the recommendation. Both of these guys had heart through the roof, too much of it for his own good in Joe's case.
I'd just like to point out that Joe is the only man to stop Singwancha in over 100 fights and is currently fighting at LHW...

Brilliant finish, conditioning really played a massive role here.

 

Singwacha was also world champ at super featherweight! Really weird to think he actually had more bouts than Joe here - showing how fast Joe was pushed.
The JBC were going to ban Joe from boxing if he lost here due to his eye and previous looks, so that is where this performance came from!

Excellent fight, obviously. The first 3 between these two are certified classics.

Pretty easy fight to score, great action tho. Marquez was clearly winning before the stoppage and I'm glad they decided to have a rematch, as they just kept raising the bar.
They have huge hearts, tough chins, a taste for brawls and the styles to clash well with most. Both of them loved to fight the best and so these make for excellent fantasy fights.

Imagine the wars they'd have with Morales and Barrera!

 

Here's a fight I think many of you will love, the 1967 10 rounder between Mando Ramos and South Korea's Kang IL Suh

Here we go, California scoring: One point for a round, an extra point for a knockdown and no points for an even round.

This was the 18 year old Ramos' first loss. I'm amazed myself of having 3 even rounds in a 10 rounder, but although Suh was throwing a lot of flashy combos to the head, Ramos' bodywork was something else and can't go unmentioned. I would have loved to have been ringside for this one. I'll bet the thumping sound from those body shots - that you can here on the video - would have been sickening. Fair play to both fighters for a great 10 rounder.

 

Just watched the third fight between Mike Rossman and Mike Quarry. Saw it in '77 but wanted to see it again. And to tell you the truth, I really enjoyed this fight. Beautiful, fast, clean punching from both subjects. Scored on the NY rounds basis.

Round 6: Rossman (terrific round - Rossman hurts Quarry good but Quarry really fights back hard)

Actual scores until that point was 4-2 (twice) for Rossman and 3-3. They used the novelty of posting scores to the viewers, which I never cared for. But I think everyone will enjoy this fight. It was fought at such a pace that each round was over before you knew it.

There's a fight I think you'd like to try scoring, it's very difficult imo, lots of rounds that could go either way. It's also decently entertaining.

George, I watched and scored this one only a brief couple of months ago and I reprint this now, because everything you said is so pertinent about the closeness of rounds and the entertainment value. This is what I wrote at the time.

First of all - great fight! Fought in tight with beautiful, clean punches on both sides. Just felt Sims was a bit busier against the aging Duran who was puffing at the end. I had a number of even rounds but when you see the long levels of infighting, you'll know why.
