    Controversy surrounding David Light's Fight
    This content is protected

Over the weekend David Light defended his WBO Oriental Cruiserweight title against the Australian Trent Broadhurst in Sydney. David won the fight by TKO but there is controversy surrounding the judges who scored the bout.

The three Judges who scored the contest were Wayne Douglas, Mick Heafey and Will Soulos. All judges are quite experienced judges and all come from New South Wales of Australia. We do know that Combat Sports Authority of New South Wales have very strict rules when it comes to official selections, where only officials from the state of New South Wale can be selected regardless of the fight or title unless its a world title fight. We also know back in August 2018, a world title fight almost didn’t take place due to the Combat Sports Authority didn’t agree with the rules of the IBF. Even in this fight the New Zealand WBO representative Pat Leonard had no say in the fight. Because of the NSW judges selection David Light was already coming into the fight with an unfair advantage.

The judges, in the end, scored the fight 19 - 19 by Wayne Douglas and Mick Heafey, and 20 - 17 to David Light by Will Soulos. These are the scores leading into the third round before the fight ended. Now let’s break down what this means.

Wayne Douglas and Mick Heafey gave Trent Broadhurst the fight round which is fine and David Light was given the first round by Will Soulos. The controversy part was in the second round of the fight. Because Trent Broadhurst was knockdown twice in the second round, the judges should have awarded David Light a 10 - 7 round. But Wayne Douglas and Mick Heafey award David Light only a 10 - 9 not taking into consideration for the two knockdowns. Will Soulos also scored the fight 10 - 8 which only took into consideration only one knockdown.

Which such poor scoring with the judges I really would hate to think what the scores would be if this went the full 10 rounds. Even some of the officials from New South Wales are criticising these scorecards. It is good that David Light won by TKO to give him the guaranteed win.

So what should David Light’s team do about this? There really are only two things they can do about this and that is either never fight in New South Wales again or refuse to fight with these judges scoring on the fight. The problem with this is that Jai Opetaia, the fight that David Lights Team is aiming for, mostly fights and resides in New South Wales, which could make it difficult in the future if David Light wants that fight and with controversial judges from that state.

    * Contrary to what been said in the media i 've been hearing whispers that Fox live boxing
shows haven't been the success they had hoped and expect a Gallen vs Hall rematch
and Tszyu pushed into big fights ready or not in 2020.
    * Mickey Bey means business and hopes to make for loss time and regain world title
and his inactivity mainly was because of promotional dispute with Mayweather and
he reckons he is healthy and fit and raring to go.
    * Terry Tzouramanis ( last two wins Brandon Ogilive , Gage Ireland ) will fight power
punching IBF Youth Champ Steven Spark 9 - 0 9 ko Toowoomba March 14.
TT who at 34 seems to have a resurgence credits proper training camps as he is
    usually training full time .
    * Did Tony Tolj do a background check on Dessaix Austrian opponent. It turns out he
is from Grozny and drag races with the local Mafia MMA fighters and he put a severe
beating on the President and lets' hope he not ruined like Bam Bam was after
    venturing overseas.
    * David Light is now with No Limits.

Looks like Junior Tszyu v the Horndog & Michael Zerafa winner could be go first up next year. Dang!

Maybe a world title shot after that for the winner. I think our boys will beat the bag out of that new WBO Jr Middle champ. Beat the bag out of him & send him home without anything to hold his trousers up.

If Michael Zerafa emerges from those fights on top, put the world title shot on in Melbourne (or the boxing Mecca of Australia, Bendigo). If it's Horndog, put it on in Brisbane. If it's Junior Tszyu, put it on in Sydney mid-year.

I'm eager to double our current tally of world championship belts.

Interesting that David Light has signed with No Limit. That potentially opens up the Kiwi audience for their shows. If he beats Jai Opetaia, that would put him on the cusp of a world title fight. If he doesn't, bring him back against the likes of Kane Watts & then take one.

I'll be disappointed if Foxtel cut back on their local live shows. I've loved them this year & I thought they had a big schedule lined up for next year? Hopefully they go ahead. Showcasing all the good young talent we have atm is a must for developing the sport in this country.

I've had a further thought on this while out walking this morning (as you do).

Junior Tszyu should go straight for a world title shot first up next year. The Brazilian WBO Jr Middle champ is eminently beatable. Why leave him to be mugged by someone else for his belt?

Win, lose or draw Tszyu's next couple of fights after that could be the Kiwi Bowyn Morgan & Dennis Hogan (the uncrowned WBO Jr Middle champ).

Instead of doing those fights purely for development purposes, he could do them for development purposes as a defending world champion.

Big difference in profile of the fights and pay cheques for all concerned if a world title is on the line.

I say go for it, Junior Tszyu & Team Tszyu 2. Rumble, young man, rumble!

    Interesting take Sandman.

    I'm hearing ya.

If you're no limit though does Teixeira make any more sense than Horn-Zef winner , even with a title??
They are trying to milk the bogan dollar as much as they can before lil Tszyu inevitably gets beaten.

I kind of get the feeling even Tim feels this way. Just make a cheeky few mill and retire young.

Teixeira is the most beatable champ at the moment..though very hard ask taking that fight on the back of the likes of Brubaker and Ritchie.

Though he is hittable. He is long, awkward and let's his hands go. Very busy and relentless.
Tim has fought a bit within himself I feel as he grows in confidence going into longer fights against gradually better opposition. He would likely need more polishing of his defense and experience with pacing to be able to deal with what Patrick will throw at him 3 mins per round all night.

I think he is hoping Horn somehow eeks a win over Zef Lord so he can cash out again the teacher boi.
Though I'm sure he would fight Zef, that's an even riskier fight that may not be as marketable.

Keep him away from zerafa at this stage, let it marinate & let zerafa slide a little. A loss now would hurt his marketability, no rush.

George did the business tonight against a sharp looking bey, very competitive & tactical fight, had George ahead by a round WITHOUT the knockdown in the tenth round, George almost finished it there, no cigar. Was a very risky fight to take style wise against a very slick n skillfull bey but it payed off and showed that George is truLy world class. George was tentative and understandably against a proven world class operator.

The scores were a bit generous for Kambosos but I thought he deserved the win in a close fight, the guy in the RBR complaining about it being a robbery is a notoriously whiny ***** any time his picks don't get the decision LOL.
I think he is a decent fighter but i've never been as high on him as others who mention him as our best prospect and possible future world champ, hopefully tho he learns from fighting a quality opponent like Bey and can go on from here to better things.

Yep that bloke was a tool lol, I had it the same as the 3rd judge 96-93, close competitive fight which George needed against a proven skilled operator who still looked sharp tonight and gave George his biggest test to date. I think George has just proven he is def one of our best fighters if not the best ATM. You will be hard pressed to find fighters of the calibre of bey on many of our other fighters resumes. George has def proven he is a world class operator, I say fight commey next and then take on Loma next august downunder for that payday all boxers work so hard for. A loss to Loma is no biggie, teo will soften him up a bit in April.

Is George Kambosos Jr the best fighter in Australian boxing right now?

I'll be doing a final 'top 10 Australian fighters to watch' for the year based on talent & potential following the outcome of the Michael Zerafa v Jeff Horn rematch.

The winner of that fight will be right up there. The loser could disappear altogether so the stakes are high. Keep an eye out for Liam Wilson who's fighting the main support against a much more experienced opponent on the undercard. He's a real talent & a contender for a spot on the list.

George will be on the list. The fighter who tops the list is the Australian fighter of the year from my perspective.

Keep it locked right here for the big announcement and the most objective, unbiased P4P list in Australian boxing!

No agendas, no favouritism, just the best of the best from an Australian boxing point of view.
