Tyson Fury dumps trainer Ben Davison

Tyson has gone Hollywood, doesn't need Benny boy now. Until he breaks down again.

 

I think it’s a good time for both to move on, now. Both have benefitted hugely from it...Ben got experience, exposure and credibility and he can go on and carve a name out for himself training more quality fighters and media work. We all know how Fury benefitted from the dynamic, but he needs more dedicated focus on his skills, tactics and how best to prepare his body for fights (ie. bit more bulk for power).

 

Unless it’s to do with Ben putting his family first etc.....then where’s the loyalty? That team including Ben know exactly what’s coming to them next time round so what on earth is someone else gonna bring to TF table, he fights like he fights and that’s it and that’s what has got him as far as he has if they try and change it now then it’s an easy nights work for Wilder. Saying that no one knows what happens behind the scene.

 

Just guessing but Fury is smart enough to know he can't beat Wilder by just doing what he did last time. Wilder will be totally prepared for that. Fury will need a different plan which will probably involve him being more on the front foot and keeping Wilder off balance or moving backwards. I doubt that Ben has got the technical expertise to put that together just yet.

 

If anyone can implement stewards approach it will be Hill. Maybe a bit more aggressive than Manny but tbf he's a good pick for tyson.
Hill had many years at kronk working under all the good coaches that worked out of there.
Davison has thrown away a good opportunity there imo. He could of still been a big part of the team plus the benefits of working alongside someone like Hill with all the years he had at kronk.
His ego got the better of him and he didn't like the changes Tyson wanted to bring into the team.
If Ben can't see that this is better for both him and Tyson then obviously his opinion of himself is somewhat inflated. He's done a great job so far but it's a fact that they need to bring in someone with more boxing know how.

The timing seems odd after Davison was ringside for Wilder/Ortiz in a scouting/trainer capacity. Plus it comes only 10 weeks out from the Wilder rematch and just after the release of Fury’s autobiography in which he basically credits BD with saving his life.

 

I wonder if he still sticks with that statement in 5 years time? He's a strange one, is Fury, he often says pretty big things and doesn't take long to contradict them, I wouldn't be surprised if he changes trainers again within the next year.

 

A somewhat cynical post, but out of frustration after Tyson fought a great fight, but if Ben had managed to stop him showboating with his hands behind his back and messing around, they'd have won. Hopefully the new trainer will erase such cockyness and he will listen

 

It’s not really going to come as a surprise but having spoken to a friend who knows Isaac Lowe very well, it was confirmed to me that Big John and Shane Fury were behind the family decision to split with Ben. Both have been very vocal about the team, hangers on, Isaac himself (who Tyson loves having about) and how training was focused around the Otto Wallin fight. As I say, probably no surprise but from a source I trust none the less.

 

Always figured this would happen once Tyson was down to a sensible weight

 

No surprise but cheers for sharing. I think it's wise all around and I'm glad Tyson listened to Shane and John. It didn't take a genius to see Tyson's camp appeared a little loose. It looked a little bit too much like fun.

He's in an old school gym now, back to the technical side of things. It still may be a disastrous decision but it makes sense in many ways.

It's never straightforward with Tyson but he always pulls it out of the bag. Fingers crossed we get the long awaited rematch announcement this week!

 

I think this is close. Often money talks... but I sense a good dollop of ego sits at the heart of this decision. It's human.
