I love you bro, but I don’t think I have ever seen you pick Hopkins to win a fight on here? Just curious who is the best you would pick him over?
I really never thought about it. Now dont get me wrong I do think Hopkins is very very good. Not great. Very nice balance and he shifts through with his right hand alot. It confused Pavlik all night. I find him a bit predictable in what he does though. His conditioning is also top notch. I dont like how he essentially quit the couple times he was thrown down or however u want to explain it. He clearly faked it and was never called out on it either time. He through Fisher aside which I didnt like and then did the same to the last guy who's name I now 4get but yea that's besides the point. When I watch Hopkins I dont see the skill that a McCallum or on point Tony possesses. I just dont see it my man.
that’s cool bro, different opinions make the forum and life fun! I didn’t like the way the whole Fisher thing played out either as I think he is great!
In my opinion there is way too much love for the middleweight version of Hearns here. Tommy always had poor stamina if pressured, a prime Hopkins had the defensive nous and stamina to stay away from Hearns early and then use his far superior infighting ability, chin and overall physical strength to do what he did to Trinidad ( who had much better stamina and a much better chin than Hearns ) and stop Thomas sometime after round eight. Toney would have caught up with Hearn as well. You are not talking about James Schuler here, Toney and BHops are both great middleweights, much better ones than Hearns ever was. They both have the chin, smarts and physical attributes to take advantages of Hearns weaknesses in my opinion. Toney vs Hopkins on the other hand is a really intriguing fight. Hops was more consistent at his best than Toney and a much better prepared fighter as a rule. If he fought on the outside and utilised his height and reach advantage over “ Lights Out “ and jabbed n moved I could see him winning an eight rounds to four kind of decision over Toney who after all had great difficulties with Montell Griffen, Drake Thadzi and Dave Algieri. None of those guys is as good as Hopkins. Whatever anyone here thinks of Hopkins he was incredibly consistent and always as well prepared as a fighter could be. Cheers All.
That is a really good post and spot on about Tommy at Middleweight. Although you knock Tommy at your peril round here. I would bet Tommy is the most beloved fighter if all of us nominated our favourites. I love him too but there is no Hearns performance at 160 that would give me confidence that he could go 12 with either of these, and he would have to if he was going to win because I have Tommy as a sharp puncher at middle but not devastating based on his record. Hearns-Toney would be lovely to watch but you'd see the tide turn inexorably in James' favour with every passing round until Tommy just wilts. Hearns may cut him but that would end brutally for Tommy as Toney would turn up the heat. Think Hagler v Hearns or Toney v Littles. The Hopkins fight would be a really ugly affair with Hearns quicker, sharper, more skilled but never looking like he would win, I see a late TKO as all the grappling and body shots take a toll. TKO 12.
Hearns outpoints Bernard. Against Toney, I see this as a 50-50 fight.IF anybody has an edge than it is Toney
