Yeah you're a total idiot who's not reading properly I said I know a few fellas doing medical degrees while boxing. I'm studying biomedical science and doing it sure. Probably going to end up a neuroscientist. American football, rugby, soccer, ice hockey and I believe even basketball have been proven to be the most concussive sports in existence. The only difference between them an boxing is that no one really checks for concussions in them so it's poorly vetted. Boxing and MMA have much higher safety standards surrounding concussion given the nature of the sport.

It’s an issue with some yes.

But there were 47,000 suicide’s in the USA alone, every single one of them could be a cautionary tale if focused on.

NFL players are outliving they majority of the population by rate of death, so the positive effects of the exercise are balanced against the dangerous effects of the sport.

Horse racing is in fact the sport with the highest rate of concussion per participant and where are all the crazy jockeys with CTE? Somehow it’s not accepted as part of the sport probably because it doesn’t look as violent to the average spectator.

Dude all contact sports have a high incidence of concussion. Remember, they're our alternatives for all out combat so we get nasty and competitive in it by nature. There are bound to be injuries of all sorts.

Spot on about horse riding. My father is a neurologist who specialises in sports related concussions, he says jockeys and cyclists can get the worst injuries due to the sheer impact of their collisions. He says boxers are relatively not that bad, journeymen seem to have the worst of it. He's also had to retire lots of rugby players.

First result on Google when looking up most concussive sports. I believe that boxing for example has about a 30% Incidence rate for permanent brain damage (most of it being very mild) but like any sport it seems to damage you slightly. Not that it matters too much. They stay healthy longer than the average bloke and it's a good outlet for disenfranchised youth so I can't knock it.

The team sport nature, the rivalry, the competition of physical and mental prowess. I mean have you never understood the purpose of sport as a socially cohesive activity imitating war in a friendly fashion or are you really that braindead?

I think it's litigation that will move changes rather than a more objective look at relative risks from differing sports. Wealthy, influential former athletes with top legal representation coming at sports organisations with emotive arguments that lead to punitive damages from juries.

You have a point about perception, the sports where violence is intended are I believe more likely to attract opposition from those who are opposed on principle.

Not advocating for this, just think this is the direction the wind is blowing...

I don't think that's too much of a reach to be honest. The same fight or flight impulses are likely being generated, just turned into running, dribbling and shooting rather than hitting.

Boxing already has a problem attracting the best athletes as other sports can offer similar or greater financial reward at less risk. If wilder had been better at basketball he'd never have stepped in a ring?

It might do, but then I think people would rather have them around.

You are giving one example. Not a big sample size. Getting your brain knocked around will have consequences. Doesn't take a scientist to tell you this.

Its says that most incidence in those sports are reported, which is obvious because on 1 amateur boxer, you have got 2000 basketball and probably 20000 soccer players around the world.
But you said that it is more concussive then boxing which this report doenst support.

its like me saying alcohol is worse then heroin because more deaths are caused by alcohol then by heroin.

No that is just a stupid american argument to somehow make up the fact that american boxing is becoming more and more insignificant.
„Yeah we could actually be way better then all those russians and latinos but our good athlets just want to stick to basketball and football cause they make more money there“
    Pathetic....
The faster you guys realize how much you are behind all those other countrys in terms of boxing, the faster you can get back on top.

dude like nobody is killing anybody.
And there is no „war“ in nature. War is as much a construct as a country or anything else.
