Growing up my dad always told me Muhammad Ali was the best boxer ever and I watched a few of his fights on youtube but I didn't really care about the sport until I saw Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury I walked away a huge fan of both and started following the sport after

Ali, followed by Frazier, and Hagler. SRL became popular during the Olympics. He was dominant, I still remember rooting for him in the final fight. Back when Olympic boxing was good.

Short answer, Ali. Ali was huge back then.

It's probably Jorge "Maromero" Paez. Fought out of Mexicali where most of my family is from, so he was somewhat of a hometown hero. I was probably about 10 years old.

Ali, I knew of Ali before I knew what boxing was.

There was a time that Ali was the most famous person on the planet, so they said and I didn’t argue I says I does.

One of my early favourites. I was at the Bargero fight in Gosford, then Echols and Soliman 2. Oscar De La Hoya was the first active fighter I was a fan of though. Oscar vs Tito was the first ppv I ever watched. I later turned on Oscar and became a Vargas fan.

Very good post, Chris Finnegan gave World Light Heavyweight Champion Bob Foster all he could handle, before being stopped by Bob, in round 14, in 1972, in London. Both Alan Minter and Tony Sibson, really good fighters.

Very nice, Prime Mundine there haha. I watched Mundine first since I'm a 90's kid but that led to me watching plenty of Ali, Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis tapes after getting into boxing

I reckon the first I watched fight live on tv regularly was Larry Holmes, I didn't like him! I have since become a fan but I think it was purely because he always won! I remember watching Hagler on weekends.
Any decent Aussie fighters of the early to mid 80's, Barry Michael and Lester Ellis would have been my first absolute favourites. Sugar Ray Leonard was a big fav of mine and Frank Bruno. Jeff Fenech and Jeff Harding in my teens.
